BILLUND, Denmark, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The LEGO(R) Group today announced it has commenced a working relationship with NetDevil(R) to develop a massively multiplayer online gaming experience to further engage its dedicated and active community.

"As children around the world continue to spend more time online we are developing new and engaging ways for them to interact with our brand," said Lisbeth Valther Pallesen, Executive Vice President, Community, Education and Direct Division LEGO Group. "The LEGO brand represents construction, creativity and problem solving -- values that compliment the MMOG market. By merging the online world of social interaction with physical play, the LEGO brand is providing new experiences for children, as well as fans. NetDevil's technological capability, openness to work with a large community, and their enthusiasm for the LEGO brand made them a natural partner."

"Playing with LEGO bricks and developing online worlds are both creative activities. To bring them together is deeply professionally satisfying and we look forward to working with the LEGO team," said Scott Brown, President of NetDevil.

This is really cool, A MMO version of blockland is something I always wanted and this is one step closer to it.

If I can be a pirate and build my own rainbow colored ship I am so on top of this. It will be like my childhood all over again, but I probably won't have to spend 20 minutes finding the right piece.

Man, I don't understand why Lego would associate themselves with NetDevil. Auto Assault had server mergers within the first few months of release and only managed something like 10k subscribers. Not exactly a record of success.

Doesn't AA have really good destructible environments though, I would assume that would work really well for a Lego MMO.

Would someone mind posting the PA comic where Gabe builds a replica of his wang with Legos? It'd be nice to get it out of the way while we're still on the front page.

Also, the sooner the Lego vs Legos debate begins the sooner it will end.

Seriously, it's 'some Lego'. You don't have 'a Lego'. You have a 'Lego brick' or 'some bricks'. It's a brand, not the name of the pieces. Ragh.

Sounds neat. I wonder how it will be different from Blockland, though. Blockland is a fun game when get get a bunch of people together and design something huge.

Anyone remember the gigantic wars we had in BlockLand? Two massive fortresses on either side of the bedroom, with a dozen guys on either side trying to destroy each other's respective base?

I would love to see that come back in a proper venue.

Man, the last time I played Blockland it choked and died once you started making really huge/complex structures. Did they ever improve on that?

Anyone else here have a great time with Lego Island? It was the second PC game I ever played. First was Age of Empires, if anyone is interested.

    YES!

I am the exact same, except switched around, first was Lego Island and second was AoE. I loved that game, I've only ever beat it once though, I remember the last mission thingy was tough. That stupid criminal guy stole the pizzas, what a bastard.

And then, to stop him you shot pizzas at him... Hmmm...

Rock Raiders all the way, man. Possibly the best way to trick a child into the RTS genre, and despite its flaws still one of my favorite games ever.

On topic, this sounds awesome. I will be there on day one to build my pirate robot armada.

This has potential for a massive amount of cool. It'd be cool if you got a little plot of land to build on or something, kinda meld Sims-gameplay in there or something. Finish a mission, get money for blocks. Or something that's not lame, I'm open minded.

Lego Island was awesome, but at the same time it was a stab in my childish heart. I thought it was a Lego game, not a game that let you build pre-determined things with Legos.

But anyway - yes, yes, yes, yesyesyesyesyes. A sanctioned freeform Lego game? With online? That missing part of my childhood is about to be fulfilled.

They won't, it will start a new fetish where people can only get off by inserting unwieldy constructions of blocks into other unwieldy constructions of blocks until they achieve legorgasm.

There's so much stuff I want to do in this game that I know will never be realized.

I want to break into people's lego houses, hide in their plastic closets, then snap off their little misshapen head when they enter the room.

I want to then commit lego arson by burning their lego house down, then running off to another neighborhood and doing the same thing over and over again.

I want to then destroy three lego orphanages, six lego hospitals, two lego libraries, and various lego fast food restauraunts.

You all should join me. We could be a cult or something. Because I'm totally roleplaying a tiny plastic hitman if this game has combat and destructable environments.
