So I'm at work, and I can't check the receipt or anything, so I was wondering if anyone knew Best Buy's return policy on games. I got Marvel: Ultimate Alliance there a couple days ago, but I just found out Toys R Us is having a buy one get one 50% off Wii games sale.
Would Best Buy give me my money back if I returned M: UA?
Just a thought; what about store credit? They might be more open to that idea, if you just explain you're not satisfied with the game. Then at least you're not out the money, and if you're like most people you'll be back in Best Buy some day to use it.
As an ex best buy employee I can confirm that you won't be able to return it. Exchanges for the same game/app only on opened software.
Whats to stop someone from going to BB with a opened package. Exchange for the same game.
Walk out then walk back in with a unopened game and demand a refund?
See i don't get it, people do this at walmart all the time and it doesn't make sense why stores have the no unopened policy if there is such a easy way to circumvent it.
::shrugs::
EDIT: Spectral Swallow beat me to it kinda, but still....

That's why big chains like Best Buy get a photo id and track every return you make. Do it more than a few times and you get cut off.
At the store where I work, if someone is exchanging an opened copy of something for a sealed copy of the same thing the reciept that prints up with the return policy just says "no refunds allowed; all sales are final"
According to the TRU website, there's buy-two-get-50%-off for Red Steel, Rayman, Monster 4x4, GT, and Open Season. Or, there's a special for Activision titles for buy-one-50%-off which is only good for M:UA, CoD, and Tony Hawk. Unless you wanted either of those two I wouldn't sweat it.

When we returned a game that didn't work, the Best Buy girl took the replacement, opened it, looked at the disc for half a second, and chirped "Oh good, this one's not scratched!" and handed it over.

We have a winner. Best Buy, if I remember right, won't do anything for software without a receipt (at least officially, you may get lucky and come across a soft hearted customer service person or manager). Most of the time now they track returns with receipts and cut you off. I think as a general rule no more than 3 exchanges on the same product. Not sure on the limit for returning different ones.
If you return an unopened game to Best Buy, they will simply put it back on the shelf. If you return an opened game to Best Buy, they put it in a bin with the other opened media and I believe throw it away. So it would be best to do the switcharoo thing you propose.

It's opened.
Damnit
Edit: It's a bit immoral, but I don't think illegal.

Clever bastards....
This idea is a lot smarter than all those posts about returning the game twice, yet it was completely ignored.
Back when I worked the service counter at Target, I would open the copy of the game they were exchanging it for.
Pissed off a lot of people.
They get an unopened, brand new copy of the game. You get your 50% off. No one is hurt in any way.
