Ok, so I've been using Facebook for awhile now, several years. I've never once gotten spam via the facebook message system. However, yesterday I got a message that has me really confused and I'm curious to see if anyone has ever gotten spam like this. If this was an email, then I'd be convinced it was spam.
This chick called "Mildred Sanders" sent me a message (it says it's via Facebook Mobile...?). The subject line was "if you're up there, save me, Superman" and she's from my regional network (anchorage).
Heya... How's it going? I liked reading through your profile. Trying to see what this is about, logged in as my friend.
Hit me up sometime. gurlheadlemon[at]yahoo.com.
I'm interested in meeting new people. We should talk, then have coffee, and see how things click from there.
Ciao! Hang on to my email, and feel free to use it. If you got nothing else to do. (laugh)
Normally I'd think "oh it's a friend whore trying to get more friends". However, I search her name on Facebook and I get zero profile matches, so she's not even on Facebook (I guess?). Goggling her email brings up zero results as well. The little facebook picture icon thing that's attached to every email kinda looks like a girl I might have seen in one of my classes but I dunno.
Is this kind of spam normal on Facebook? I googled for answers but nothing. I added her email to my Y! to see if anyone was online but no one is. I'm really curious, as it doesn't even make sense if it WAS spam and if it's a friend whore, then why is there no Facebook profile?
UNRAVEL THE MYSTERY.

it's a trap.
That's what was confusing me. I've never seen it before and I asked around on IRC and no one had heard anything about it nor did any googling reveal it. I figured it was spam/friend whore.
It serves the purpose of them getting your email and then filling your email with even more spam.
Except those fucking assholes who have allowed 20 year old chain letters to proliferate via facebook notes. Fuck those idiots.
if you dont reply to this post u will have bed sex for 7 years.
Yeah, it's really not his fault because spam is unheard of on Facebook. But this is almost certainly spam due to the vague message, lack of profile, and strange facebook mobile method.
Just report it.
Yea I already reported it.
It fucking sucks if spam is going to start infiltrating Facebook. That's one of the primary reasons why I use it. I don't want people bothering me, goddamnit.
want a bigger cock?
I got some recomendations!
I... I think I love you.
I think the fact that you didn't absolutely know it was spam right away combined with the fact that you are browsing a technology forum (thus telling us you're not completely tech-unsavvy) means that you are very lonely :P
