Recommend Books on Graphic Design and/or Adobe Software?
I've managed to land some part time work turning my hobby of website and graphic design mucking around for friends/family/work into an actual thing that makes me extra money.
So, I guess it's time to acquire some learning material so I can build my knowledge base beyond something I just tinker around with.
I'll be using InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop. I'm mostly familiar with Photoshop and have only lightly fiddled with the other two before.
How would you classify yourself? Beginner? Intermediate? Expert?
Recommending a good book is tough unless we get a good general assessment of your skills

I'd probably check out youtube if there are certain techniques you are looking to learn or improve on. There certainly is enough how to videos on there I'm sure there is something you'd be able to use.
Also check out your local book store or Amazon.com and look for some learning guides on the functions and advanced techniques the tools offer.
Web Design, Graphic Design and Web Development are very different fields, it'd be good to have some idea of what exactly you want to learn before making recommendations.
If Web Design and Development is the thing you are looking for I would recommend the following to start with.
The books from "A book apart" (http://www.abookapart.com/) Especially - HTML5 for Web designers, CSS3 for Web designers, Mobile First and Responsive Web Design. These books are short and concise and I use them to reference at least weekly.
Hardboiled Web Design by Andy Clarke - Take this with a pinch of salt, some of the situation Clarke puts across don't really translate well to smaller businesses / freelancers.
Don't make me think by Steve Krug
Ordering Disorder, Grid Principles for Web Design by Khoi Vinh
With the software, I'd classify myself as intermediate. I know the basics and can get around fairly easily. Ready to learn some advanced techniques.
As far as graphic design, I'm a beginner. I've done several things, but don't know the theory and what not behind it.
Most of my assignments are going to be print for newspapers and magazines, since I'll be working for a publisher. Website work is going to be a secondary.
