Temporary hair dye advice

Anybody have any suggestions for good, vivid, temporary hair dye? By temporary, I mean it'll wash out between a few days and a couple months. No six months later still slightly pink manic panic cream type temporary.

I've heard of people using kool-aid before, and it was pretty bright blue even in dark brown hair. I'm a guy though and I have no firsthand knowledge of how it's actually done. I can tell you that it goes away in about a month.

    Here's a web page about it: http://www.wikihow.com/Dye-Hair-With-Kool-Aid
    Good luck!

Kool-aid is not really all that temporary, so I wouldn't do that unless you're looking for lingering color.

There are spray-on dyes you can use that will come our when you wash your hair. What's this for, and why does it need to come out so well?

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn

Long story short, I have a profession that is very frowny on unnatural colored hair. However, I occasionally miss my spikier, more technicolor freedom of expression. Especially around con time. This summer I'll be going to both professional meetings and various geek cons in fairly quick succession, so I'm just seeing if I can find a way to have temporary self expression at the places where I can be me, and yet not burn my business prospects up at the places where I have to cover up the tattoos and be all spit and polish. Bleaching my hair repeatedly is NOT an option, I have a septic system and bleach would cause all sorts of havoc in it.

If anybody has a good wig supplier that actually makes nice, extra long, extra full wigs, that'd be happy too. I've been looking at wigs, but my hair is very long (waist length) and bushy, so the typical wig doesn't really work.

There's pretty much no such thing as "temporary" hair dye. It's going to linger no matter what, especially if you have hair like you describe. I'd resign yourself to finding a wig.

Stuff like this is very temporary and will be completely gone after you wash your hair.

The downside is that it isn't really dye, but colored hair spray. But it's a great temporary solution that will color your hair just fine without the need to bleach it and it's easy to get rid of at a moment's notice.

Is it important to cover *all* your natural hair (like for a cosplay)?

The spray in stuff is ok for a party, but you have to be careful not to sweat, go out in the rain, touch your hair, let anyone touch your hair, let your hair touch your clothes or any other fabric (like bedding or furniture), etc etc.

I think hair extensions are pretty cute, like this:

But I don't know what kind of style you're going for.
