I got the Valiant I. Sadly I'm a terrible sniper and will likely never use it more than once or twice.

Was hoping for the Crusader II.

I really hate when lag tells you that you didn't shoot people.

Tagging someone 5 times with an AR only to have that first red bar keep blinking is very annoying.

Being able to see ping would be so nice.

On a Soldier Shepard, is it worth investing in Marksman or should I just use Adrenaline Rush?

Is Marksman every truly useful on a Soldier Shep?

    No pack. Shocking.

Probably have to wait till this weekend and contact EA. Maybe they'll give me another "oops, sorry" pack of 300k credits.

    No pack here either

I didn't play a ton this weekend but I definitely got some full Gold extractions.

    No, alas.

Marksman has the benefit of reducing spread and recoil, making some weapons - like the Revenant or the Hurricane - much less unwieldy.

Adrenaline Rush raises DPS by exactly the same amount without burning through ammo as quickly, refills your thermal clip when you activate it, and when specc'd properly refills a portion of your shields on activation.

I'm just not convinced Marksman is really that useful, in multiplayer or especially single-player

Yeah, I'm not much good with snipers. I'd rather stick to a pistol or shotgun. I do like the black widow in single player though.

It'd be neat if Marksman could be combined with AR, but I can see why it can't. Tripling your DPS and turning the Revenant into a tight-beam bullet hose with boosted AP Ammo would be almost hilariously unfair.

I mean Shepard's unfair anyway, but this would be on a whole new level.

Doesn't Marksman work on any gun? It seemed to increase the rate of fire for whatever I put it on in SP.

Yeah. It's a blanket increase to fire rate. Only thing it won't effect are single shots like the Widow since it doesn't effect reload speed.

That being said I wish it would effect reload speed.

Or we got a new mod that reduces reload time on weapons.

I just realised that I've been sort of lucky with my commendation packs. I've got a valiant I, crusader I, hurricane I and now eagle I. At least I've been able to try them all.

Marksman could be combined with Tactical Cloak, assuming you did the "activate one power while remaining cloaked" upgrade for it.

ok can somebody explain the whole promoting multiplayer characters to single player thing, after some google searches I still don't get it. I promoted my level 20 sentinel and got achievement which I was happy about, but ultimatly regret. My galaxy at war is 100% on everything and now one of them is white? does that mean it will stay at 100% because I promoted that character? if I promote different races does it lock the other galaxy at war sections at 100% where is this explained in the game?

Promoting and the Galaxy at War rating are not related. Promoting means you gain a war asset worth 75 points in all your single player saves. It is listed as "N7 Special Ops Team" under Alliance. Every time you promote, this war asset gains 75 points. To keep your Galaxy at War rating high, you need to either keep playing the multiplayer or use the free iPhone app (ME3 Datapad).

Promoting is generally pointless but it does provide you with a free respec. Also when trying out new classes, I find it easier to start at level 1 instead of 20.

Pretty sure they've given them all out by now. If you didn't get yours, you need to contact EA Customer Support. Use the online chat thing, it only takes a couple of minutes to get your pack.

Back at release, my soldier Shep used AR and Marksman and it worked out pretty well. There weren't any bonus abilities that would serve me well except perhaps another grenade power, so I wasn't missing out on anything, and it let me use the Revenant with AR close range to shred everything or with Marksman long range to take out Nemeses and other dudes behind cover without carrying a sniper. Ammo efficiency usually wasn't a concern (on insanity) because they throw so much more at you in this game. Naturally I was more excited before release when I thought I could use Marksman with AR, so that "offensive power only" thing killed dreams and that evolution choice, leaving with the mediocre "restore half of your base shields on use." But at least that cancels out Banshee fireball drain.

Still, while SP Adrenaline Rush is not quite as good as the MP version, it did let me fire the Rev pretty much non-stop, and Marksman made the same useful in its weak area, range.
    valiants are obsolete

thread is now about killing literally everything instantly with lift grenades

Lift grenades are definitely pretty great now, and if you get both the charge and heavy melee power bonuses they do almost as much damage as inferno in less time, but I suppose that just makes the latter a little more situational than before since you could go for armor damage and end up doing twice as much damage per grenade with stacking DoT. Frag nades now seem the weakest link.

Just a few more hours and I can get my drugged up arse driven back to my X-Box and see what I got.

I'm hoping for either the Crusader, Valiant, or even a Hurricane II would be fun. Just not the Eagle, I didn't have teeth dug out from underneath other teeth so I could get the Eagle.

Which means I totally have an Eagle waiting for me at home.

Super useful for the Hurricane, but that's about it. Can't believe how awesome that SMG is post-patches. Adrenaline Rush and Marksman really should be combined into a single utility power, though.

Eh, they don't really look that reaperized. Now Ravagers, Marauders, Collectors, Cannibals? They look twisted - not just like someone put a few tubes on them.

In multiplayer it's pretty cut-and-dry in that the DPS is identical, but Adrenaline Rush results in better DPS against armor. On higher difficulties, AR probably works better than Marksman in most scenarios - except that Turians get that pesky racial bonus to accuracy and stability, which can muck up the numbers on high-spread weapons like the Hurricane or Revenant without needing to apply accuracy boosters.

In single-player it's much the same story, except in one instance:

Marksman can result in markedly higher damage for extremely high-ROF weapons (or shotguns with decent clip sizes, 4 or above) when used with Inferno Ammo's Explosion upgrade. Each "hit" has a 50% chance of activating a 105-point damage explosion over a 2.5 meter radius. This explosion's power increases based on your passive (but not armor-based) power damage boosts, as well as the Soldier's 40% bonus to ammo powers. Take the Shuriken I - it has a RoF of 1100RPM, which is about 18 per second. Specc'd properly, you're getting 9 explosions of 150 power every second, pulling the Shuriken's effective DPS from 300 (ignoring the Inferno Ammo damage boosts to Health and Armor) to about eight hundred trillion. And the biggest part of that is hurting enemies all around your target, if they're clustered together.

The thing is that the Explosive Burst works on Health and Armor, though not Barriers and Shields - so high-RoF and low-damage weapons like most SMGs can actually be incredibly useful with the right Inferno Ammo on them.

Of course that's only true in single player, because Incendiary Ammo in multiplayer isn't a power, and it's incredibly lame in comparison.

But yeah, stick Marksman on a Shuriken with Inferno Ammo and you might as well be burning down the world
