So I've got this piano and I'd like to learn to play it. How should I go about finding a teacher and what should I look for?

Go to a place that sells pianos/sheet music and ask them? I'm sure most places will have references as to who to call.

Where do you live? I only ask on the off chance that I personally know a teacher in your area.

Yeah no dice there. What type of training are you looking for (most teachers specialize in classical or jazz)? Are you a complete beginner?

I'm looking to learn rock songs mostly (Springsteen, Warren Zevon, Patti Smith, stuff like that), though I'm also interested in jazz, blues, and ragtime. I've taken a semester of basic music theory, but other than that I'm a complete beginner.

Yeah in that case I'd say your best bet is to talk to people that sell/work on pianos. Especially at the more local/mom & pop type outfits many of the people working there have night/weekend gigs as part of jazz trios, wedding musicians and the like. My brother is one of those types and he also gives lessons to supplement his income. Good luck!

Craigslist has a section dedicated to finding instructors for various subjects, including piano.
