Securely transferring documents to a lawyer [solved]
I have a friend that need to electronically (due to time constraints) send a bunch of tax-related documents to an out-of-state lawyer. But he's kind of hesitant to just email stuff like this. Any suggestions? This is just going to be a one-time-thing, so I don't think he'll pay for something (and I'm assuming that if there aren't any good alternatives he'll just email them).
Zip file, password it, call the lawyer with the password
Is just passwording a zip really all that secure? I assumed that was basically just to stop people who put absolutely zero effort into stealing your stuff. Like that little doorknob lock on your front door.
They're about as secure as anything else you'll ever use a password for. If someone has a copy of one of the files you're zipping, it takes about half a second to crack it, though. Man in the middle attacks (trojans) are your real worry, or next-of attacks (I cracked your mom's account and she is less secure and you use her password, whoops now I can get to yours).
Though if someone's doing those, you have far bigger fish to worry about than securely sending files. SFTP is another option assuming your lawyer is doing it right.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
He decided to just over-night FedEx it because there are hundreds of pages he'd have to scan, and he didn't feel like going through all that effort just so that his email could choke to death trying to send an attachment that large.

bowen's suggestion is nice and easy though.
