DSL modem and router connectivity help

I have a Linksys E900 router and a Motorola 2210 DSL modem.

This problem came into play before I set up the router. And to be clear, it's not an actual issue of internet connection dropping.

When my modem is plugged directly into my Xbox and lets say my Xbox gets shut off, I have to powercycle the modem to get the Xbox to reconnect to the internet. I don't have this problem if I plug directly into my PC. I can unhook the modem from the Xbox and plug it into the PC and talk to the internet fine. I plug it back into the Xbox and I have to powercycle as noted before to get it to work again.

I just set this up on the router listed at the top hoping to cut this problem out. But if i'm not on the Xbox or PC for a bit of time (not sure exact time) than the modem seems to quit talking to the router and I have to powercycle the modem again.

Any ideas?

I was thinking it had something to do with DHCP lease time but if I actually knew I wouldn't be asking for help here. :)

And please, new router, modem, internet service, etc are not answers i'm looking for. Thank you.
