Looks interesting. Ron Gilbert was the mind behind DeathSpank, right? DeathSpank was hilarious, but not all that fun to play, so hopefully this game's a little better in that aspect!

Its a puzzle game so its plenty different from the outset. Also Gilbert should be more well known as the mind behind Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.
In other news, JP LeBreton (Lead Level Designer on Bioshock 2) is also working on the project.
I wasn't too interested when they called it an adventure game (I'm pretty satisfied on that front at the moment), but then the trailer showed it to be an action puzzler. I am very interested now!
Shifting further into the game, we encountered a character-specific puzzle which will only be accessible if a particular avatar is in your party (Gilbert said you’ll “skirt around the edges” of these areas if you’re lacking the necessary hero). In this case, the knight was set to win the heart (and more importantly, a precious amulet) of a princess by acquiring the dragon’s gold. In order to reach the area, the knight had to utilize his “guardian angel” ability to safely glide down a precipitous drop near the princess’s room. From there, the knight was able to attract the dragon’s attention (and repel his attacks) by invoking the “guardian angel” once again. That allowed the scientist to open the gate behind the dragon and grab the gold just beyond it. Unfortunately, that gave the dragon free reign on the castle, so when we reached the princess’s room, we were greeted with a recently-fed fire-breathing serpent. In true adventure-game fashion, it was a roundabout solution, as the full-bellied serpent belched out the amulet instead of flames as he gobbled up the fair maiden.
RPS: Are you worried at all about that, though? It seems like the type of game where once you’ve solved a puzzle, you know how to solve it. Wouldn’t that hurt replayability?
Ron Gilbert: Well, I’m not that worried about it – just based on my experience of looking at how people played Maniac Mansion. Maniac Mansion was a game that I think people kinda grabbed on to characters they really liked. They liked Razor, they liked Bernard, nobody liked Jeff. But you know, they liked one of those characters. And so they would want to play with them. When they played Maniac Mansion again, they’d always bring Razor. They might bring some different characters, Michael or Wendy or whatever, but they always brought Razor because that was their favorite character.
I think people may do a very similar thing with The Cave, where they latch on to their favorite character. They love the Hillbilly or they love the Scientist. They’re going to play it again, but they’re going to play it with the Scientist, because they loved her area of the cave or they just loved her. Yeah, if you’re min-maxing the completion of the game, then there’s probably a couple of redundant ones. But I don’t know that that’s the way normal players really think about stuff.
RPS: So the cave talks, and that’s really amazing and hilarious. But was that always the plan from the beginning? Or did that come out of some ridiculous brainstorming session at Double Fine or something?
Ron Gilbert: No, that was always part of the plan. That the cave really talks, that’s he’s kind of like the soul of the cave, this weird kind of omniscient presence that has witnessed through hundreds of thousands of years of people liking to go into caves. He’s witnessed all of human evolution. It just seemed like an interesting character. Because of the amount of people that he’s seen coming down here and their descendants, nothing surprises him anymore. Everybody’s been down here at some point or another. I just thought that was an interesting kind of thing to play with from a story standpoint.
Okay so you pick three characters, and on a playthrough each one of them gets a specific cave-section where they bring the other two characters along for changing things up. That means you play the game three times to see everything.

It's weird because individually I know what each of these words means
But when you put them together in that order it's just strange and confusing

I want this now. I understand that it's a pretty reasonable span of time to have to wait, but I have the gift card and I want the money parked in place and be playing this now instead of after I get home tomorrow.
It's now up on the Wii U eShop for $14.99. It wasn't being advertised on the front page as being "Now Available", though. I had to go look in my Wish List to be able to find it.
Your sig was too large. Maximum sig size is 500x80. - Jacobkosh.
If this is ANYTHING like Maniac Mansion, I must buy it. That game was a childhood treasure. Its also the type of game i could play and have my wife "coop" with some backseat controllering.

Well, it also is like, actually a coop game, too.
Wait, what? This is co-op? Is it co-op online?

Well I broke down and bought this on my PS3 just so I could play it before my leave ends. I'll probably buy it on Steam too if I like it. Installing now.
Lots of fun so far, but got stuck in the Mine Cart section
top cart, where you have to hit the track switch... it won't let me interact till I'm already past the switch. Seems like this is the right solution, but my input is delayed somehow
Played the demo on Xbox, bought on WiiU shortly thereafter. Shoulda just bought on xbox... WiiU dl speeds suck butts!
Im incredibly surprised by how good this is. Do the characters' special abilities actually serve a purpose? In the demo at least, i saw no use for the Time traveller, hillbilly or twins' abilities.

No
I wrote that title nearly a year ago, and saw that description somewhere.
And the verdict?
EDIT:
But if you don't care about hats, you can get $5 back on amazon, and it's a steam version anyway

Looks to me like it's local only.
