Young Justice
Five years ago Superman made his first appearance in Metropolis when he prevented a damaged plane from crashing into the city. His sudden arrival sparked a wave of excitement and fear across the globe. If one man could wield so much power how could the world trust that he would use it responsibly?
Other heroes soon followed in Superman's wake. Rumors of a masked vigiliante called Batman fighting the crime ridden alleys and streets of Gotham began to flood the internet. Amnesty Bay suddenly found itself hosting Aquaman the former king of Atlantis. A crimson blur dubbed the Flash started depositing criminals in the back of squad cars in Central City. The Green Lantern began to blaze across the sky above Coast City when he wasn't busy saving the world from alien invaders. Princess Diana of the Amazons presented herself before the United Nations as an ambassador of peace and pledged to protect the world as Wonder Woman. Star Labs reported the arrival of a martian who had an alarming fondness for oreoes and a desire to protect the innocent.
At first it was uncertain whether or not these superheroes would be allowed to continue waging their private war on crime. It seemed that the world wasn't ready for Martians, Atlanteans, Amazons, and Kryptonians yet. Then the alien creature Starro arrived and attempted to take over the world. With the ability to create spores that could control people's minds it seemed that nothing would be able to stop this hostile invader. It was only through the combined efforts of Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, the Martian Manhunter, and the Green Lantern to defeat Starro.
Overnight superheroes were transformed from potential threats to the world's saviors in the court of public opinion. Granted recognition by the United Nations the team that had bested Starro became the Justice League the world's most powerful force for good.
What is this?
This is a PL 10 Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition pbp game following the exploits Young Justice intended for 3-4 players.
Can I Play?
At the moment the spots are going to be filled by the players from my Justice League International game, assuming that they are interested.
Campaign Information
Much like the Justice League International and the All Star Justic League this game will be set in a universe much like the DC world we know and love, but with many differences. I want to give myself and each of you room to play around with the stage and makes changes if you want to.
The major differences are that superheroes haven't been around for that long in this universe, less than a decade in fact, so people are still pretty impressed by their arrival.
I'm giving you guys as much room as I can so youcan have plenty to work with but if you have questions throw them out there.
Character Guidelines
I would like PL 10 sidekicks and young heroes to be the center of this game. I'm dropping the bar on power because I think it will help the game be true to the theme of young heroes coming into their powers an abilities. Legacy characters are welcome of course. Robin, Kid Flash, Super Boy, Wonder Girl, Aqualad, Speedy, and those sort are obvious choices. That said I do like it when people surprise me with a character choice I didn't think of. Also feel free to change these characters and make them your own. The Aqualad of Young Justice is not the one I grew up with but I think he is a worthy addition to the DC Universe.
With all that said it's time for you to go save the world. Good luck.
Universe InformationThe Justice LeagueThe Hall of JusticeAfter they'd defeated Starro and been granted the full cooperation of the United Nations the Justice League chose to establish a permanent base of operations. They intended for the site to serve as a headquarters for their team as well as someething to inspire people to have faith in them. To that end the Hall of Justice was built in the heart of Washington D.C. where it would be a visible reminder of their presence.
A very gifted graphic designer named Kyle Rayner was chosen to design the exterior of the hall. However for security reasons the design plans for interior of the hall remained under the control of Batman. However there are several low security areas which remain open to the public the majority of the time.
Some of the portions of the Hall of Justice which may be viewed by the public include the library, the entrance hall, and the trophy room. The hall also features a gym, a fully stocked galley, and temporary quarters for the use of league members.
AquamanThe son of a lighthouse keeper named Tom Curry and Atlanna an outcast from Atlantis Arthur Curry was born in Amnesty Bay. Even as a child Arthur knew he wasn't the same as other people. He could swim at incredible speeds, sea life seemed drawn to him, and he was stronger than any of the other children in town. When he dove underwater to resuce a young girl who had become tangled in a fishing net he revealed his abilities to everyone in town, his parent's included.
That night Tom and Atlanna revealed the secret they'd been hiding for so long. As a half-Atlantean Arthur began testing his abilites beyond anything he had been able to do before. His telepathic command of sealife, endurance, and strength developed steadily over the years.
When he returned home from an outing he discovered his father had been attacked and his mother had been kidnapped. Tom Curry told him that Atlanteans had come arrested Atlanna for crimes against Atlantis. Arthur pursued the Atlanteans all the way back to Atlantis only to discover that his mother's arrest had been an elaborate trap set in place by the regent of Atlantis. He learned that his mother was in fact the rightful ruler of Atlantis and that she had beene exiled after she'd refused to marry an Atlantean noble.
Arthur was able to free his mother and defeat the regent with the help of a several Atlanteans still loyal to his mother and the royal bloodline. He then took the throne and promised to protect the world's oceans in order to allow his mother to return to the life she had chosen for herself.
Aquaman's years on the throne of Atlantis were not enjoyable however. The people of Atlantis often criticized their young king for his refusla to take decisive action against the humans who polluted their oceans. His only companion in the city was a young woman and fellow outcast named Mera who he eventually married much to the dismay of his advisors. Mera's family had given birth to some of the most dangerous criminals in Atlantean history but Aquaman kept her by his side as his queen for most of his reign.
Eventually Aquaman chose to abdicate his throne and return to Amnesty Bay, his role as the king of a people who had come to despise him had become too much of a burden for him to bear. Mera chose to venture to the surface with her husband. Shortly after returning to his birthplace Aquaman witnessed the arrival of Starro and joined in the battle against the alien invader. His efforts proved vital to Starro's defeat and earned him a place among the other founding members of the Justice League.
BatmanAs Superman’s arrival ushered in the age of the superhero, WayneTech began pumping money back into Gotham City as its prodigal son Bruce returned from a long sojourn through southeast Asia. Eager to “dust off the books and restore the Wayne name to prominence” he began funneling money into both public works and private research projects and within six months the Wayne family fortune had nearly doubled, with WayneTech holding twice as many government contracts as its competitor LexCorp.
Coinciding with Bruce Wayne’s return the crime rates of Gotham City began to drop. Most attributed the success to GCPD’s windfall of funding from WayneTech, but the cops and junkies on the street would tell you different. Reports flooded in from all sides but the descriptions were all the same: someone or something was stalking the criminals of Gotham City. And they were terrified.
Waging a war on crime is not a clean affair and eventually Batman’s presence became known throughout the city, and as his notoriety increased so too did the caliber of criminals that challenged him. New criminals like Joker, Poison Ivy, and the Riddler rose to terrorize Gotham, thrusting the city into a new era of darkness.
After operating from the shadows Batman entered a working relationship with police commissioner Jim Gordon and soon a spotlight was installed on top of headquarters downtown to serve as a point of contact with the Dark Knight.
Not long after that Robin made his first appearance, a younger boy who seemed to be following in Batman’s footsteps, training at the side of the Caped Crusader. It seemed that as the amount of lunatics in Gotham increased, so did Batman’s team.
The Flash
The Green Lantern
Long before he became the Green Lantern almost everyone who knew Hal Jordan regarded him as fearles. A skilled and daring fighter pilot he served in the US Air Force for several years. During his service he was honored for numerous acts of heroism but he was also reprimanded for excessive risk taking. When he refused to follow orders and pursued an experimental aircraft into Chinese airspace Hal nearly started a war. As an act of contrition Hal was discharged from the Air Force and fined heavily.
Luckily Carol Ferris, a former girlfriend and the newower of Ferris Aircraft, offered him a position as a test pilot which he gladly took. During their time together Ferris Aircraft produced several spectacular designs which served to make the company one of the wealthiest and most respected in the world. However Hal had become obsessed with the experimental aircraft he'd seen above China. Using the resources at Ferris he attempted to build a similar vehicle at great cost to the company. When the design proved impossible to replicate Carol cut funding to the project and Hal stole the only prototype determined to prove it's capabilities.
During his test flight Hal's plane was struck by an alien ship whcih crashed in the desert outside far from Ferris Aircraft. Hal pursued the alien ship and found the dying pilot, Abin Sur, who bestowed his ring on Jordan before he died. The ring transported him to OA where he was trained to serve as the Green Lantern of Sector 2814. As the first human Green Lantern Hal was placed under close scrutiny by the Guardian.
When he returned to Earthhe had lost some measure of his pride and gained a greater sense of responsibility. These changes allowed him to protect the world from several alien threats in his first monthes as one of the planet's most powerful heroes. However when he faced Starro alone his stubborn refusal to ask for help allowed the alien invader to get a foothold on the Earth nearly costing the planet it's freedom. By cooperating with the other founding members of the Justice League he was able to use his power to transport Starro and its spores to a desolate world after it was defeated.
The Martian ManhunterWhen Adam Strange, a promising young scientist emplyed at STAR Labs presented his theory for a type of long range teleportation technology he called a zeta beam it was dismissed. Determined to prove the validity of his research Strange developed a prototype on his own using the advanced equipment available at STAR. The first time he tested the device he was transported out of the lab to an unknown location and J'onn J'onzz of Mars was transported to Earth in his place.
J'onn had lived on Mars thousands of years in the past when the plaent had been lush and thrived. Two races had struggled for dominance over the planet, the peaceful green martians and the violent white martians. Ultimately the white martians emerged victorious from the sturggle exterminating nearly all life on the planet. A few green martians had managed to hide in hibernationn chambers scattered across Mars, J'onn and his family being among the lucky few. The white martians apparently turned on one another next and wiped themselves out.
At first J'onn J'onzz could think of nothing but his family sleeping somewhere beneath the surface of Mars. After several months he returned home with the aid of STAR and Superman only to find that his families hibernation chambers had not survived. Returning to Earth he began using his impressive abilities to defend the race which had liberated him. Distraught by he loss of his family and his world Superman encouraged him to live on and to use his abilities to help those in need. Inspired by the Kryptonians example he returned to Earth and began aiding the human race.

Family and Friends: Jamie Reyes has shared the secret of his super hero career with not just his family, but also a circle of friends.
Hybrid Hero: The Blue Beetle was born when Jamie Reyes merged into a unique symbiotic relationship with the scarab named "Khaji Da." Together they are still figuring out the exact nature and extent of their abilities.
Identity: Blue Beetle isn't always super-powered, sometimes he's a normal teenager -- with an alien probe implanted in him. Regardless, when the scarab isn't active Jaime doesn't have any powers.
Real Name: Jamie Reyes
Age: 16
History:
Jamie is the third hero to take on the Blue Beetle mantle. First was Dan Garrett, one of the first wave of supers. Claiming that a blue scarab idol granted him his powers and had charged him with battle against evil; Dan earned his place among Earth's first wave of heroes. At least, until he was killed. One of the first of the new breed of superhero to fall, Dan was succeeded by Ted Kord. Unable to tap into the powers of the blue scarab, Ted used his genius intellect and resources as head of Kord Omniversal to construct the equipment that he still uses to fight crime.
Jaime Reyes, on a supposedly normal field trip to Kord Omniversal, was caught in the middle of a super-villain attack that nearly brought down the building. During the chaos of the attack, Jaime was separated from the rest of his class and hid behind the display case of the blue scarab, displayed prominently as it was in the main lobby. An enegry bolt struck the case and would have killed Jaime if it weren't for the scarab. Freed from the confines of its glass prision, the blue scarab displayed a remarkable ability. It fused directly to Jamie's spinal cord; this bonding graced Jaime with the ability to call up a full-body suit of armor, complete with flight-capability and weapons systems. Any other powers are still a mystery to the rookie hero.
Coming into his powers in such a dramatic manner brought him to the attention of the new Justice League and Ted Kord in particular. Jaime is being trained by the older Beetle and is being forced to confront all the responsibilities and dangers of being a teenage superhero. He is also having to deal with the scarab itself and the personality it is developing.

Blue Beetle Blue Beetle Blue Beetle, I wanna play Blue Beetle.
As of season 2 of the show, which is awesome by the way, he's even canonical.
You are cleared for Blue Beetle but keep in mind that this is inspired by the Young Justice show, not mirroring it. I do look forward to seeing what you'll do with him in a new universe though.

Personally speaking my favourite member of the Young Justice team by far is Aqualad. He is the coolest. So I am interested in playing him right now, but I'll give it some thought just in case another idea occurs to me.
One of my old Captain Atom ideas was that Captain Atom's legacy character could be a young Firestorm, because they have similar powers and ol Cap could help the kid when it comes to using them. Also I remember Firestorm being on the JLA during The Obsidian Age, good times man.
So yeah, giving some thought to who I want to play right now.

Complications:
He is also having to deal with the scarab itself and the personality it is developing.
i think he should be one of the robins
also destroyah that is one cool jaime reyes right there
The Dark Knight of Gotham City
As Superman’s arrival ushered in the age of the superhero, WayneTech began pumping money back into Gotham City as its prodigal son Bruce returned from a long sojourn through southeast Asia.
Working with the GCPD and Robin
After operating from the shadows Batman entered a working relationship with police commissioner Jim Gordon and soon a spotlight was installed on top of headquarters downtown to serve as a point of contact with the Dark Knight.
Not long after that Robin made his first appearance, a younger boy who seemed to be following in Batman’s footsteps, training at the side of the Caped Crusader. It seemed that as the amount of lunatics in Gotham increased, so did Batman’s team.
Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson
When Starro invaded and the world’s mightiest heroes banded together to combat the alien menace, it fell on Robin to keep Gotham City safe while Batman was away, and crime certainly didn’t take a day off on account of malevolent alien invasions.
Barbara liked Dick Grayson a lot. He had always been kind of flaky, but she knew him well. It quickly became apparent that something was calling her friend’s attention and whatever it was it was important, and whatever it was he was hiding it from her.
It didn’t take long for a determined police commissioner’s daughter with an IQ in the middle-upper hundreds to discover that her best friend Dick Grayson was actually the one and only Robin, protege of Batman himself.
When Barbara confronted him with her evidence he was too stunned to make an excuse. Photo after photo lay on the table of him entering a dark alcove or alleyway and emerging as Robin. He quickly realized that Barbara had the potential to end not only his career as Robin, but also Batman himself.
He did not expect the request that came from her next.
She wasn't going to out them... she wanted to join them.
Enter Batgirl
Bruce was apprehensive at first, but Barbara was intelligent and adaptable, and with her background in gymnastics and dance he found her a capable learner when it came to combat techniques. She passed every test he put in front of her and soon she was consistently beating Dick in their sparring matches. Despite all of her training however he didn’t believe she possessed the fortitude and dedication she needed and so kept her benched in the Batcave, relegated to tactical assessment from behind a keyboard.
When Barbara stole a spare Robin suit from the Cave and apprehended the dangerous criminal Firefly he finally recognized Barbara’s abilities. She was ready.
Batgirl and Robin
Bruce couldn’t lie to himself any longer: Batgirl and Robin were more than just friends. It was plain as day and the team was suffering for it. Neither of them were able to perform at their fullest when the other was around and it was eventually going to cost them all dearly. Bruce never anticipated the rift that would come between him and Dick because of his intervention.
Dick broke up with Barbara and shortly after that he quit his role as Robin entirely, moving into the city to attend Gotham U full time. Barbara continued to fight alongside Batman but when Dick began patrolling as Nightwing he retreated into his old ways, distancing himself from his former partners, preferring to work alone.
I like the background you have developed for the Blue Beetle as well Destroyah. Ted might be the sort to keep the scarab on display in Kord Omniversal. After all he did keep it on display for many years in his house, not quite the same as what you thought of but I think the idea holds true. Ted doesn't understand what the scarab really is so his security around it might be a bit lax. The idea of it sneaking into his backpack and merging with him that night is great, but having him becme the Blue Beetle midfight is really dynamic.
Good work with the Batman bio Arc. If anyone else wants to write up info for a character or anything let me know. We will build a great universe piece by piece.

It's practically a trope of all superhero origin stories.
So Jaime is caught in a supervillain attack and hides behind the display case holding the scarab. Maybe a shot goes wide (or is aimed deliberately) and hits the case, destroying it. and then rising out of the smoke, the new Blue Beetle is born.
... I can see the comic book panels now.
(not to mention that coming into his superhero identity in a fairly public way like that has story-space for so many complications. I like it.)
fyi, I'm gonna be out of town till early evening at least. talk to all you fellows later.
Also Aquaman's revised origin is up now.

I think I am going to combine the origin of the two premier Firestorm characters in a new way which fits in with the ideas I had for the character. Jason Rusch (I always preferred him) is a kid from Detroit, a quiet, athletic type who has to deal with an abusive father at home (his mother left after his father lost his hand in an industrial accident). Jason's family is poor and he gets somewhat of a hard time at school for his lack of good grades.
On a school trip to a new local nuclear power plant, Jason meets Dr Martin Stein, a brilliant but arrogant young physicist. Stein presents his invention to the visitors, a fantastic new power source of unimaginable complexity called the Firestorm Matrix, controlled by an Artificial Intelligence based off the personality and intellect of Stein. Jason isn't really interested though, and he sneaks off to explore. During the display the Matrix seems to destabilise dangerously and the visitors are hastily evacuated. Jason hears the alarm and races back, just in time to get hit by the Matrix as it collapses and exploded. Miraculously, he survives, naked and scorched in the middle of the ruined plant. Waking up he realises that the nuclear power core is melting down, and the fallout will kill thousands if not millions.
Suddenly he hears the Stein AI in his head, telling him that he has taken on the Firestorm Matrix and now has access to his powers. Jason is confused and shocked, but knows he doesn't have time to ask questions. He uses the Firestorm powers to alter the atomic structure of the core, preventing it from melting down.
Since then, Jason has embraced his powers and become a superhero, with the Stein AI system guiding him in the use of the Matrix (though the personalities of the Jason and the AI don't always get along!) Always physical and athletic, he relishes the demands of such a role, and uses his alter-ego as a way to explore a new world, far away from his abusive father and the troubles of school. Though very powerful, Jason is also inexperienced and after some persuasion accepted training and mentorship from Captain Atom. Though they didn't immediately get along, Jason has come to respect his teacher as a superhero and a man (and though he would never admit it, as something of a father figure). Captain Atom sees great potential in Jason, if only he can learn to control his immense powers, and stop running away from the troubles that make him so keen to be a superhero.
As for Stein, his reputation was heavily damaged by the disaster. He does not know for sure, but suspects that the new superhero that has appeared around lately alongside Captain Atom showing powerful atomic and energy manipulation powers is somehow related to his lost Matrix. Whether Stein searches for the Matrix for the right reasons or for personal gain is still up in the air.
What do you guys think?
Should be very interesting to see in play.
Also, I tweaked the Blue Beetle origin in my post above to reflect what Sak and I touched on earlier. I thInk it's much more interesting.
(very much stemming from the fact that there is a blue beetle)
Daniel Carter (Legacy Character of Booster Gold)
Booster Gold's inscrutable heroics have required him to move forward in time. Faced with the prospect of losing the media coverage associated with the Booster Gold name and franchise, Booster has entrusted one of his ancestors to cover for him and make sure he isn't forgotten... yet. Former high school football star and present-day layabout Daniel Carter is the only person on the planet whose genetics are similar enough to that of Booster himself to use his equipment. In another timeline he was recruited by Booster to wear the persona of the mysterious Supernova... so Booster figures the kid can fill somewhat less voluminous shoes in this one.
This version of Daniel will be 18 and struggling to finish high school (or get his G.E.D.) while doing as little work as possible. Either that or he's in his early twenties and Booster has convinced him to pretend that he's a teenager.
I haven't decided yet whether he'd be in one of Booster's old costumes (and resenting 'temping' for Booster while also being called Booster Gold Jr., Kid Booster, Booster Boy, etc while still loving the fact that he's getting the attention he so desperately needs) or wearing a version of the Supernova costume (and having to deal with the fact that he's incredibly powerful while having very little in the way of motivation).
yes
i loved that part of 52
osiris that's a good one
you know how i like the black marvels
also i've also been wondering if i could cram seven deadly brothers into a pl10 character

i still think osiris would be baller as heck though
Solar: Firestorm is a great character and I like that you found a way to make him work here. The origin looks great and I like the way you left the professor in there as a possible threat to the aspiring young hero.
Horseshoe: I said that if you played a teenaged version of Booster Gold I would die of joy. Thank you. Seriosul though I loved Booster's slacker ancestor in the 52 series and Supernova was a pretty great identity. Much as I'd love Kid Booster I think you should stick with Supernova for this. Osiris can't compare. The fact that we'd have modified version of the blue and the gold gives me great hope for this gae. I'd suggest making him eighteen since he'd be about the same age a Batgirl and the younger sheroes.

As for laving Stein in, I couldn't really think how to fit him into to what Jason is doing now, but then I realised letting you take the reigns on that would be good story stuff.
Anyway once we have all of the sheets and backgrounds finalized I'll get the ball rolling on this.

Seem pretty good? I like it, not many skills or advantages but with a hefty power set that is the price you pay. Besides, the few skills that are there (besides the pretty damn tasty science and tech abilities of the AI) all support the character, as do the advantages.
