Not talking about the games in general, but the entire Sega saga from videogame consoles to some of the games that didn't quote made it, yet made an impact to anyone that played them.
Mainly from the short-lived consoles like:
Sega Master System
Sega CD
Sega Saturn
Sega "Nomad"
The doomed 32X
If you prefer to talk about the rest of the consoles instead, such as Dreamcast, Genesis, Gamegear and t he like, then they are welcomed as well, but I am curios as to see why many of the above didn't quite managed to get much attention, or why the variety of released games was ever so low.
I know there were gems like Sonic CD, Lunar, and an obscure Konamy RPG involving body snatching robots and a detective, but there's gotta be more than just those games that were worthwhile and could convice you to get any of its consoles just to play them.
Sega is rad. I don't care what anyone says. A lot of aspects of gaming that are now considered commonplace were originally thought up by Sega. Everything from browsing the net with your Saturn to playing games online with your Saturn (albeit direct dial) and DC, cross platform play between consoles and PCs, ballsy ad campaigns and even DLC. They even had plans to release classic Genesis and Master System games over the net to be downloaded and stored to the ill-fated Dreamcast ZIP drive.
I had a Nomad once, and it broke down. I would likely kill a man for another.
On a side note, are we allowed to discuss stuff like Dreamcast Half-Life and Propellor Arena?

I'm still waiting for SEGAGA to be localized. It's never going to happen, but hopefully someday Sega will port it and give it to us on the DS or something. God I miss my dreamcast.
I finally beat Shinobi a few weeks ago. That is definitely one of the better SEGA games they've released in the current years. It is so satisfying getting an 8-enemy tate and watching your character pose like a badass and everyone gets sliced in half and they're all URGBLURGARF. I can't fucking beat Hiruko on hard, though. I don't even want to imagine what Super difficulty is like. God damn.

I loved my dreamcast(which I got long after it died and the games were literally $3 new) if only the cord was on the top.
That said, the wii REALLY needs a Jet Grind Radio, the spray painting actions were BUILT for the wiimote.
The dreamcast was actually my first Sega system, I was always a Nintendo boy, never really got the appeal of Sonic, myself. But Dreamcast definately had some great games. Oh and Saturn had 'Mr.Bones' it was good stuff too.
Everyone with a PS2/PSP get the Sega Genesis Collection. Do it. It's so much awesome in one disk.
This cannot be stressed enough.
Now all we need is a collection with the Streets of Rage and Shining Force games. The Space Harrier and Outrun games were also left off the first collection, giving me hope for a second. I'm sure they can find a few others to throw on there, too.
Spectral Swallow, you know there is a clip on the top of the controller for the cord, right?
Also, the Genesis Collection is the coolest thing in the history of the world and things. I waited a while to buy it since I had a lot of the games on cart, but having the opportunity to play through the early Phantasy Stars without spending a ton on Ebay is great, especially since the collection isn't an audio atrocity like the Smash Pack was.

Agreed. The Dreamcast was, in many ways, nearly a decade ahead of its time.

What? Hang on.

Hmm... did not know that. Still though, that cord was already painfully short, that just cuts another 1/3 foot off it.
Yeah, they are a little short when you tether them that way. I never had a problem with the cord on the bottom, I actually preferred it. When the cord comes out of the top of the controller, it just bends over and onto the floor. I've been spoiled lately with controllers that are 6 feet plus, but my couch is pretty close to my TV (zomg eye damage) so it doesn't really bother me. When I slouch back into the couch and play House of the Dead 2 or Confidential Mission with one of my guns, it's sort of irratating, though.
Speaking of guns, I've got a couple of first party Japanese DC lightguns, which are awesome since I've heard that they are the most accurate DC guns available, but it sucks since they aren't compatible with any NTSC DC gun games except for Virtua Cop on the SmashPack. Columbine and it's ensuing "murder simulator" hysteria caused Sega to hold back on releasing a gun in the US, but they did license one, and there were a few available from other companies.
Once I have some money, import DC lightguns are pretty high on the list of games I want to buy.
The game needs a port or remake so that more than just 5000 copies of the game exist in the states.
True that, I almost got it for $10(the price of the rest of the saturn games in the store I was at.) but I was buying something else too, and they didn't know the price of that, and when she called to ask, the owner corrected her(Turned out to be $200). I've heard people rant and rave, but $200 for a game is far too much.
Having never possessed a Genesis as a child (I came into the gaming community with the N64), I had only third party experiences with SEGA's genius, so I don't think I properly appreciated it. But as I first played through Sonic the Hedgehog, which I purchased for the Virtual Console three days ago, I am set aback.
This was one of their first goddamn games, and the degree of polish that went into it is insane. Chronologically, it corrolates to the original Super Mario World, and if you put the two games together, they are equals, and that's remarkable, given Nintendo's almost decade long headstart. I'm not counting the Master System here, since I don't think that SEGA knew what the hell they were doing back then.
It makes me mourn all the moreso what they have become, and what they have done to their flagship franchise. Since I have almost fresh eyes towards the Genesis era Sonic games, it makes the current deathspiral of the franchise that much more obvious and utterly offensive to my sensibilities. I blame furries.
During the period I had sega channel, I didn't buy a single game nor rent a thing from blockbuster.
Sega was always so way, way, way ahead of their time. People often talk about nintendo's innovation, but back in the day Sega was with them neck and neck.

Poor, poor, misunderstood SEGA.
Sega gets a bum wrap. They still release hits.
The last 3 out of 4 sonic games have been fantastic. Sonic Wii beckons you.

I remember when Mortal Kombat 3 came out for Genesis, the Sega Channel let me play it a month early, and when they had it, their main menu had Liu Kang and Sub Zero duking it out.

I fully expect that it will be awesome, and I will buy it. I also just recently bought Super Monkeyball Banana Blitz, a fine game in its own right, but it's no Mario. The recent entries into SEGA' s Sonic Furry Fantasy Parade are no Mario. But the original Sonic, and it's immediate sequels I believe, were easily on part with Mario or Zelda.
Monkeyball is also utterly merciless, and that I was unprepared for.

Sonic Rush and Sonic Wii are remarkably close to genesis-era sonic goodness.

Other then that I'm not so much of a fan except a handful of Genesis games from my childhood.
I loves me the soundtrack.
Completely useless, but still awesome. I've named him Skeeter, and he resides in a closet next to other useless yet awesome shit.

You are mistaken. It bombed so horribly in japan, far worse than it did in the US.
It won Europe, however.

Mines called a Mega Drive! Sounds so much more AWESOME!
1. 9/9/99 NFL2k - You could see the dimples on the ball. Plus, it and NBA2k were arguably the greatest sports games of their time.
2. Seeing Gears of War for the first time in HD.

Me and my brother chose playstation.
I wonder how things would have turned out if I had gotten the Saturn.
I bought one from a garage sale once for $2 in 11th grade.
Sold it for $50 to a friend of mine who was a crazy collector.
