75-90 minutes seems to be the standard. Last year Sony had booked theirs for... what was it, six hours? They were done with news inside of two, the rest was just some party thing.

Nintendo's conference is only 60 minutes this year, but they have several other things scheduled such as today's Nintendo Direct as well as something with the hardware producer Tuesday night and a software showcase the following day.

I like how that image implies Iwata is dead and smiling down from the heavens.
wii u pro controller?!? holy shit Nintendo have lost their minds, there's so many damn controllers for the wii u it's gonna scare away every damn developer ...

Just supporting the pro controller could be a much quicker porting option.

Would be nice if it was a pack-in.
Yeah it would but there's no way they would do it. I'm just hoping it has an internal battery.

The Pro controller has the exact same layout as the tablet, just no.. well.. screen or NFC. So you don't need to pack the Pro into the system, and all games need to support it.

Iwata specifically said the Wii U Pro Controller is supposed to help facilitate cross-platform games on the Wii U, so...yeah.

...Except games that rely heavily on the screen
And I can't get my mind around that layout just yet. All three companies now have their own analog stick layout. Which is cool for first-party stuff or things designed intentionally for that controller. But you can imagine playing, say, Assassin's Creed on that controller? Finger on the trigger with your thumb way down there on the A button?

Would it be any worse than pulling down on the right stick on the 360?

Yes?
I don't play first-person shooters really, so time spent in the general right-stick area of the controller is pretty low
Eh, hopefully they'll just tailor the controls to that specific model instead of just slapping on the 360 version's controls
I always loved random bingo cards, as opposed to the static ones, but there's things on yours that are subjective like "bored press" and "Microsoft Wins E3." Stick with the announcements for inspiration and clearly identifiable tropes like Special Guest, or "COD Game gets a Demo." What the hell is the Kinectimals one with the kid playing and the Shawn Michaels .gif supposed to be? What's the trigger for checking that fantasy scenario off?
Yeah, there's a problem with leaving some of them open to interpretation, and I think for next year I'll try to keep things split a bit more clearly. For what it's worth, anything with an image *should* have alt-text which explains what it is.

Actually, if the pro controller is heavily supported, it's a good argument for many games having a non-dual screen mode. You can play with the pro controller on your TV, or play with just the game pad and its screen. Either way it's just one screen, and that's easiest for devs to port over from other platforms anyway.
Doesn't bode well for dual screen games, but that's always Nintendo's realm anyway - they use their own hardware to the fullest, and everyone else plays catch-up or phones it in. This way at least third parties aren't hampered by needing a Wii remote control scheme and they can be as lazy as they want, which ultimately might be more beneficial to Nintendo's platform than anything else.
Porting needs to be easy. Clicky sticks support that ideal too.
It's cool that you could say that, because you know regardless of how it feels when they get it in their hands, there will be people who complain about it on message boards every day until the console is discontinued because they don't want to look foolish on the internet.
The new CC comes at a bit if a bad time for me. Xenoblade's taught me how to deal with and even like the old CC layout.
It seems a bit unnecessary to even have a classic controller though. All the hands on accounts I've seen have said the Wii U gamepad is pretty comfortable to hold and since it does everything the CC does and more it seems silly to have another controller.
On the plus side it very obviously has a charging port which means the gamepad does as well. Third party rechargeable batteries got me through the Wii but it'll be nice to have something more streamlined.
There I was, 3DS: 2621-2671-9899 (Ekera), Wii U: LostCrescendo
That does sound nice, Sporky, but it all depends on that big "if" of whether it's actually heavily-supported
And if it's not a pack-in...I don't know, I want to be proven wrong on this because I would love to see the traditional controller make a comeback on a Nintendo platform
Everyone that enjoys Assassin's Creed and Super Meat Boy, two games that depend very heavily on the RT+A combination, pick up your 360 controller right now. Press down the trigger, then place your thumb on the controller just below where the right analog stick is. They just prevented the dreaded "claw hand"
You'll put in the latest Call of Duty and there will be a static image on the game pad screen saying "Screen functions not supported in this game! Purchase the all new Black Ops brand Nintendo Pro controller for a tighter experience!" and then when you touch the screen it takes you to Amazon.

It'll be useful for not having to buy multiple tablet controllers (assuming you can even do that) if you are playing a local multiplayer game, such as the Mario Karts and Smashing of Bros.

the wiiu game pad is a normal controler just with the screen, and a few other stuff.
i think it also for normal games that have local multiplayer, since the wiiu pad must cost a ton, we just get that controler for a buddy. and i'm sure if a game don't need the screen you can use the wiiu pad controller just fine with the screen showing some artwork or the wiiu interface.
Now with that all out of the way, I'm kinda of excited to see if Nintendo will spend more of their conference focused on software for the Wii U / 3DS. I know Iwata said it (well, Wii U games anyway) but seeing them actually do it will be different.
Not surprised at all. Much like how the CC was their backup plan on the Wii (ie they could easily transition to motion-less gaming), they have a non-screen controller to at least have something to fall back onto.

Edit- It's not as comfy for shooters, but I've got a PC 360 for that.

I doubt it's something to "fall back" to so much as I doubt the console will support 4 of the touch gamepads so they need something for 4 player local CoD and such.

Given the "Social" implementation of the device, I can see why they would limite the idea or use of more controllers. This design is built around the shift of focus Nintendo is having. Many of their devices in the past have always had great USE in the Japanese markets, due to the population size and social customs. Where as in America, we were much less the case. Developers will choose whether or not to force us to use the Wii U GamePad, and that is just a story that will be told with time.
In regards to the Nintendo Network, the overall design will be something they have never come close to trying before. They are ensuring the foundation of the Miiverse is going to be long lasting. They don't have the ability to start over and even bail on the network like their previous versions of 'online.' It seems that they get he idea of how to introduce this by simply giving the video games in the house a HUD that works with everything. Much like Steams overlay.
The "dashboard" of the the Wii U is indeed a wonderful idea and I am very interested to see how that plays out.
As an aside, does anyone else miss Hiroshi "Crazy Man" Yamauchi?
Nintendo's gone soft, man.

I don't want "social" gaming and I don't want Miis. Miis are ugly and are just a gimmick. I don't care if a bunch of bobble-heads with "different expressions" are making poorly spelled twits about some game - that is not an experience-enhancing feature.
No, give me improved and versatile online multiplayer and great games to play online. That's the kind of social gaming I am interested in. We'll see on Tuesday - this didn't put me off but it did not excite me either.

Just picked up my 360 controller for comparison and I can't see the comfort being an issue
Which is good, because speaking otherwise I like my controllers nice and symmetrical
Rest assured, all those other times, it was you who was in the wrong.

Oh that's true, this Miiverse stuff gives devs something to fall back on if they can't be arsed to think up a good use.
