Quick XBox 360 question

Will it work with any universal remote that isn't specifically made for the XBox 360?

I remember you could program the first XBox with RCA codes and it would work, is there something similar for the 360?

Yeah, I do believe so. At least, I know people were using the Harmony remote with it-- so I'm pretty sure you can do that.

I know Windows Media Center Remotes work by default. That might be an easier question to find an answer to if nobody else knows.

That one? It's one of the ones I meant when I said "specifically made for the XBox 360."

Yes, it works with all Harmony remotes. I have a 659 and a 1000 (woo) and it works well on both. The 1000 even has a colour representation of the buttons.

I don't even have cable; it would be hard to justify the $130 price tag on the Harmony. I have a standard cheapo universal remote that came with my new TV. Will this not work with the XBox 360?

Did your Xbox 360 not come with one of those media controllers?

Those were a limited-time deal for launch systems.

Question: Whats wrong with using the Xbox 360 controller, exactly?

Especially if you have a wireless one.

Nothing too bad. It's just kind of clumsy for doing DVD-related stuff and I have a universal remote, so I figured I would see if it's possible to hook it up that way.

I'm pretty positive you could get a cheap Media Remote on eBay.

I know I could. My question is "is it possible to use what I already have instead of getting more stuff?"

If the answer is "no," that's fine. I just wanted to be sure before I went out and got something I didn't need.

I find the media remote perfect for dvds and mp3s.
Instead of cycling through that damn guide (when I'm playing a game), just hit the next button on the media remote to change songs.
    Works a treat.
