So after calling half a dozen stores and visiting others in person, a helpful clerk at Gamestop explained to me that, unlike major titles, Pokemon Conquest does not have a set "street date." Rather, the stores are not supposed to sell it before the 18th... but there is no guarantee they will have it on the 18th. Target said they expected their copies by late Tuesday, while Best Buy said it was going to be the 26th at the earliest. I'm surprised and annoyed, to be honest. I dunno if Nintendo is to blame or not. Maybe they didn't expect high demand for this game. And I guess that'll teach me not to pre-order a copy.

2. that's a street date
3. Yes they are. Poor planning.
Game's not out yet but there's a wi-fi event active:
For those of you with the US Pokémon Conquest game, the first WiFi event is now live. This WiFi event unlocks a special part of the main narrative which allows you to befriend Motochika and Motonari. This WiFi event is live from today until December 31st 2012 so be sure to download it
And more passwords!
A few more new passwords for Pokémon Conquest's US release has been revealed. Thes password will unlock a swarm of Pokémon to appear throughout the region of Ransei. First is the password for Panpour. This password was given by Toys 'R' Us and is CNZF3wpq3x. The next password, also given by Toys R Us for Pansear is niE33w9rwM. Next, the official site posted the password for Oshawott. This password is frCLRpXG88. Next, the official site posted the password for Gible. This password is LTb3n3RYJ8. The password for Cinccino was also revealed through the Nintendo World store and is vVALFrGTXX.
The passwords from Gamestop have also been released: Darmanitan: pK5RgzqLG8 , Sneasel: CMqkZRRSRX , Larvitar: Rc338MpqLx , Beldum: BqWxXEK3xg , Axew: Lpu3ggCYk8, Emolga: Jnm3kqgN8X, Lapras: FZP8GqRZRR, Scyther: Shw8mxRAJR, Riolu: 8GV3LMGrnM & Pikachu: GfV33RVN3F We'll bring more passwords as and when they come
I can deal with easy. Having never played a Nobunaga game before, I feel the need to check it out.

"Did ya hear the one about the mussel that wanted to purchase Valve? Seems like the bivalve had a juicy offer on the table but the company flat-out refused and decided to immediately clam up!"
I just finished my own review so I haven't read anybody else's review of the game yet, but beware the judgment of any review that complains about the difficulty level and doesn't talk about anything beyond the first campaign. The "main campaign" really is only an introduction to the real game, which is more difficult and opens up all the advanced mechanics. I haven't had time to really delve into the "post-game" (I'd actually call it the real meat of the game!) yet, but I've seen enough to say it's both more difficult and more fun than the first run-through.
I suspect major hard-core turn-based strategy fans won't find it challenging enough, but most of us should get a fair bit of enjoyment from it. At the very least, even in the main campaign there's a nice mix of tricky type matchups, and you can get destroyed by making a mistake like neglecting to prepare for that goddamn Quagsire in the steel castle.

I think I'm going to have to pick it up, although at $37.49 it's expensive on Amazon. Anywhere have it for $29.99 or is it always around that/$34.99? I know it's 8 bucks, but still

That's not Amazon that is charging that, that's just some re-jackoff hawking it at a markup. Click the "6 new" link immediately below that price listing on the product's page to get to Amazon's entry, or the "More buying choices" window to the right, below "add to wish list".
Went to Best Buy on my lunch break and they told me it comes out next Tuesday. Which is weird cause people are going to get cheated out of 10 coins if they wanted to early purchase it and register it to their Club Nintendo account.

The 10 early purchase coins extends for the entire first month, not just the first week.
I picked mine up this afternoon from a Gamestop, and it was the last remaining copy in the city; according to the search of Target's, Best Buy's, Walmart, and Gamestop's website.

Why is Nintendo so bad at this?
Even though it's Pokemon, it's still a niche game/genre. Which explains why it wasn't released on a Sunday.
Edit: They basically underestimated how popular it would be.

Strangely, the Dutch site I use to buy imported US DS games did have this game. And I got an e-mail earlier today saying that it's on its way. Which hopefully means I get it tomorrow.
Still... kinda bizarre that I might be able to get this game so soon, while other people actually living in the US (and, I assume, Canada) won't be able to get this for a while yet.
Well, so far the game is pretty good. The tutorial part lasts a little under an hour or so. And it really doesn't hold your hand much.
As soon as you can recruit guys, you have decent freedom. After the first conquering part you get the ability to link with pokemon. It doesn't seem as important for some of the characters, though. I'm talking the Warlords, though, not the warriors.
The way I see it, if you're going to fight Yoshihiro Shimazu, who has fighting types, it might be a good idea to link with a non-Normal type pokemon so you can at least stay in battle (although I didn't and it wasn't really needed). Same with Oichi.
Here's a tip: When you get to the point where Development opens up, don't use your guys there to free battle. The area will only improve if you leave those guys and let them "work" on their stuff, instead of working on their sync level.
Also, someone let me know if they get Ginchiyo Tachibana. I got her from my fight with her, but I'm wondering if there are certain conditions to getting Warlords or if it's random.

It's not getting a European release? What happened with the awesome NoE?

The arenas seem pretty type-dependent. One battle took place in a lava-filled cave, with narrow paths through the lava that are frequently blocked by jets of fire from the ground. All of which the fire-type enemies could just walk straight through or even sit in.
Same thing with water-types and water. I imagine that most of the types probably have something of the sort like that.

Looking at my GS receipt, most of the pre-order ones are mixed up. Riolu and Scyther should be swapped, and the passwords for Lapras and Pikachu should also be switched. I'm not sure about the other five, I don't want to waste the Rewards Points to get the passwords and double check.
So I finally found a copy today. It took some calling and running around, but so worth it. Only got to play through the first few "months" but I'm liking it so far. My only question is... do I have more than one chance to recruit a Warlord/leader? Or is it a one-time deal?
Also, i think you have to conquer 5 kingdoms to unlock the password system.

I did not automatically get Ginchiyo from attacking their city. I suspect the requirements for recruiting the warlords is the same or similar to the rules for recruiting people during normal fights, because I was a little weak going into that fight and didn't kill her within 4 turns or use a super effective attack to kill her.
I didn't get Ginchiyo during the main battle but I recruited her when I saw her hanging out in the cave (or whatever the battle area is called in that kingdom).
What a relief. I'd heard that you could only get the Warlords of other kingdoms through Wi-fi events or something. Happy to see I'm wrong, since Ginchiyo is my favourite character.

What the hell?
Oh and Best Buy has the release date for next monday.
That is IMMENSELY upsetting.
I.. I guess pokemon tactics is serious business?
How exactly do they enforce that? Is it just "don't enter an invalid password too many times", or do they actually force you to update wirelessly?
I'm guessing it's some kind of hard code that fucks up if you enter something that doesn't work.
Still insane though. I mean who'd have the patience or drive to bruteforce passwords that long?
