So my ceiling started leaking something fierce this morning. Upstairs neighbor apparently left a faucet on. Filled her apartment with water overnight, started pouring into mine.
Luckily I had gotten home at like 5 this morning, so I caught the first few drops and got containers underneath before the downpour started. Saved everything in my apartment from being destroyed. It is seriously leaking in my living room, kitchen, bedroom, everywhere. Maintenance finally got here to answer my call, and now we are just waiting for water extraction to get here and start clean up
And here I just wanted to get a few hours sleep before class. Oh well.
That is pretty great that you saved your stuff, at least!
Once when I was a young kid, I was super mad at my parents for some reason, and plugged the drain in the upstairs bathroom and left the faucet on. A nice drywall replacement later and I was banned from touching a computer or a television for two months.

Hopefully you have renters insurance just in case your neighbor is a dolt when you're not at home in the future.
A lady on the plane this morning was perturbed when there was water dripping from the roof of the cabin. I reassured her it was just condensation from all of us mouth breathing it up in that tiny little plane. I really hope it was condensation

If it was water from outside the plain, you would also be leaking out atmosphere from inside the plane. If there was a change in cabin pressure, you would most likely be aware of it.
that sucks, vann
are you going to be able to live in your place while it is hopefully repaired? do you have somewhere to go?
is mold a problem where you live? if so, what sort of things are going to be done about mold?
when i was still high school, about 10 years ago or so, some switch stuck in my parents' washing machine and the fan downstairs looked like a giant shower head
that was pretty wild

Yeah, I was just being silly.
That said, the was a plane recently that depressurised and everyone on board asphyxiated. The plane flew like halfway over the country before it eventually crashed
this happened all the time in my old apartment. the lady upstairs would put her kids in the bath, and then go fuck off and do something else.
suddenly i've got water pouring into my laundry room because the kid was playing with the water faucets and the mom was in the other room doing god knows what.
i then spent 3 weeks with a big ass dehumidifier running in my kitchen, and water STILL came from upstairs despite mine and my landlords constant complaints.

I hope her kid drowns. That'll teach her.

No clue what they're gonna have to do. Ceiling is pretty obviously fucked in places so that'll be fun
It is really good that I saved everything because I don't have renters insurance yet. Will definitely be getting it now though.
we didn't have renters insurance the entire we rented, but i would have been a lot anxious if we had
our last place was owned by a construction contractor who was a super catholic dude who actually did a lot of great things that Jesus said to do, like give convicts a second chance and stuff
he would hire guys out of halfway houses and stuff, and teach them how to be carpenters and stuff
anyway, these guys that didn't always seem to know what they were doing would work on our apartment building, so my wife and i purchased renters insurance
and then kicked ourselves for not always having it when we saw how cheap it was
I don't have renter's insurance right now but I just moved out of home like two months ago, and own virtually nothing of value. Like, it'd suck a bit having to replace my computer or my bike, but both of those are so old I'm looking to replace them before long anyway.

you can get all of that insured for a couple hundred dollars a year, probably less even
think about things, geese
if you have enough clothes to go for a week without doing laundry and several pairs ofshoes, you have hundreds of dollars invested, maybe a thousand in wardrobe, and that is you buy the cheap stuff
Yay living on the top floor, I'm the one raining water down on others.
Though if the roof ever leaks, I'm the first to know.

Seriously, if there is one life lesson I can share with anyone moving on to their own place that they're renting, it's to get renter's insurance. It is ridiculously cheap for the amount of coverage you get. Like $70 bucks a year. If you have car insurance or any other policies, it can be even cheaper when bundled all together.
It's not just to replace your own stuff, which is still fucking awesome in events like theft or your neighbor upstairs is a retard who lets children alone in the tub with water running, but the liability coverage if you fuck something up can be a lifesaver. If you ruin someone's shit and you don't have insurance, you're going to have a bad time.
The house I'm in is over 100 years old and the basement is all just stone foundation and when it rains water just leaks in. The windows aren't sealed either
Good thing nothing is down there!

My renter's insurance is basically free as the State Farm (whom I have my car insurance with) multi-discount covers the cost of it. If you can afford to rent a place you can afford and absolutely should have renter's insurance.
Also, beware of mold now. Friend of mine had a water pipe flood the bottom floor of his place and it never recovered. He eventually had to move out.

I was going over mine when I purchased it, and there is a very detailed section on meteor and ballistic missile strikes.
I'm actually required to have renter's insurance where I live right now for the liability coverage.
if they don't offer you a hotel room or something at least if you have to leave
man, I don't know what I'd do but they ought to do that
