We are the smarter, cooler comics blog.

This is a group blog dedicated to the discussion of comic books (in all their forms: floppy, trade paperback, graphic novel, etc.) Specifically, the “group” are posters from Penny Arcade’s Graphic Violence forum. We like comics: we’re passionate about them (different comics, but a shared passion) and we all share an interest in good comics. What that goodness is – where it comes from – is what concerns us. So, enjoy and respond!

TEXT AND VIOLENCE POSTING 101/EDITORIAL GUIDELINES
-Post about whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want.
-If you want your post read over before it goes live, just save it as a draft and PM
@Arivia or
@Skullo about it.

Categories: At this time, the categories for posts are
Essays,
News, and
Reviews. Pretty self-explanatory, please use one, if your post doesn't fit into any of those categories please tell me so we can come up with one for the next time a cool post like the one you're doing comes by.
-
Tags: Tag your posts, please. Definitely tag the publisher; if it's not Big 2, tag it Indie as well. Tag any prominent characters, groups, or series in your post (Ms. Marvel, JLA, Animal Man 2011-) or concepts (Women in Comics.) As an example,
@Antimatter reviewing Robots in Disguise #6 would have a category of Review, with the tags of IDW, Indie, Transformers, Robots in Disguise, and Kup or whoever. Creators are also likely worth tagging (Morrison, Moore, Bendis.)

Art: Art is pretty! Art is cool! Art makes everything work better. If you're going to sling an image right at the beginning of your post, like I did for my Ms Marvel post, then please use the Featured Image option on the right hand side of the post editor. Otherwise, go wild.
-
Sources: Please note sources for any art/news/theoretical treatments/whatever somewhere in your post. I still need to do this for my Ms. Marvel piece, but if we can keep ourselves well-organized from the beginning, then it will pay dividends in the long run.
Posts
or it would be
if it wasn't Jonathan
I have every confidence it's going to be the best thing ever.
Skullo has graciously offered to edit posts and help people out, but it's sort of an all or nothing thing due to Wordpress settings. Are people okay with someone being able to edit their posts, understanding the goal is to simply clarify and improve, not materially edit their content?
Would people be okay with this if they always have the option to refuse changes somehow if they disagree?
Also does the one month of posting before joining the blog make sense to people?
Yeah I can't wait to do weekly reviews in September
Also I sent you your invite I think Solar
Let me check
Edit: resent it to be safe.
Oh! Also I'm going to stick two blog roll link things up, one for contributor blogs and one for other good sources (Gail Simone, ComicsAlliance, 4th Letter?) Please provide ideas for either.
anyway, just made a post of my own about X-O Manowar #1. Perhaps it is a little wordy? I always enjoy long articles myself, but that may just be me. Anyway, interested to hear people's opinions.
i've got a specific word flow and voice and know exactly what i'm doing even if it is against any standard rule of grammar. every word is chosen for a reason. this writing degree didn't earn itself.
it's not like my scriptwriting where collaboration is built in. I gots to know I am the sole editor on a thing, and I don't want skullo wasting his time because I will refuse all changes.
is this arrogant? maybe. but that's just my thing.
then again I dunno if i'll even have time to post anything if this screenwriting gig comes to fruition

I'd definitely contribute articles about the upcoming the Man-Thing mini if TLB doesn't do things first
That's cool, TLB. Stuff like this is why I put it out there, to make sure that everyone's wishes were respected.
Also Solar your post was pretty awesome and British. Mind editing some tags and a category in - or if you don't want to, I can. (I fixed one instance of "Valient.")
fuck it, I'm out, can't wait to see what you guys write
I'll think about it
now that the singles that comprise the MTMTE and RID trades are out, it'd work
you don't need to install anything to write for Text and Violence, its all done through a web editor
wordpress.com is just online blogs hosted on Wordpress (the program), it doesn't require you to have Wordpress yourself.
edit: I put tags and a category on for your post, Solar.
and we don't, so you just hop online and do it all there
it's as easy as posting here!
I will also be writing our little style manual/posting 101 of sorts tonight. Nothing complicated.

If you want in, just send me a PM with your email address in it, no strings attached.
I am now a member of your newsletter, how much comic book inspired porn should I expect to receive in any given month?
Also: Cool idea, looking forward to it
Don't cramp my style, lady
seriously though, I think a wide mix of writing styles and subjects would be good
no need to limit anything
Good luck to all participating.
Do expect great things.

I think that's it. I can't think of anything else, off hand.
@Crimsondude, please attach this to the OP.
Edit: Just sort of dawning on me: I promise not to get all library science on this and tag the shit out things. :P
