Really don't want to backseat mod here, but I also don't want Rorus to take away the industry thread after he asked people to drop the sexism talk here in his absence. There's an extensive sexism/misogyny thread in Debate and Discourse, all 50 something pages of it. Oddly, there does not seem to be a thread on the Day incident at all, I'm kinda surprised by that.

Not too shabby for a nine month old game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if EA/everyone run with this and it becomes the next step of evolution in the whole Season Pass idea.

I'm so confused.
Why is Felicia Day required to contribute/have contributed something to "gaming culture"
He got fired because he said that about a woman and with the current trend in gaming press over forced fake feminism he paid for it.
If "forced fake feminism" = men telling other men, "Hey, let's stop being massive assholes to women and also call out some of the ridiculous objectification that happens in games," I'll take it. Accusing men in the industry (game journalists or developers) of "white knighting" or being "fake" when they speak up about gender issues is just the latest form of anti-female backlash. Sure, it sits oddly on a few guys like Sterling, but hey, maybe he's gotten a bit older and decided, "You know what, the misogyny in the gaming community really is bullshit." There are other male journalists like John Walker from Rock Paper Shotgun who have been in our camp for a long time, but idiots on the Internet still accuse him of just trying to be trendy when he talks about women's issues.
Although there are more of us now, women working in the industry are still vastly outnumbered, and why should it be our job to be the sole champions of women's issues? We're the targets of all the misogyny out there. We didn't create it, and I think it's awfully awesome of any guy who willingly steps up to take even a sliver of the bile directed at us by stepping forward and saying that x aspect of sexism in the industry/community is not ok.
The comment that former Destructoid guy made to Day is a prime example of what happens to any young, moderately attractive woman who is involved in gaming in any professional capacity. Her motives and abilities are constantly questioned. Day is well-known to have gotten involved in "gaming culture" thanks to a genuine affection for RPGs. Calling her a "glorified booth babe" is basically accusing her of having no actual interest in or ability at gaming and only being around to use her sexuality in order to make money. That's sexist and patently unfair, especially since every time I've seen Day make any reference to her looks it's in a tongue-in-cheek manner.
The same thing has happened to many women who are far more involved in the industry, like Jade Raymond. You know how much shit she got for being front-and-centre when promoting the first two Assassin's Creed games, which she produced? Never mind that she has a degree in computer science, a management position that she worked up to by creating and producing games at several companies, and that she was doing her job by going out and promoting her game. She was constantly accused of just being a pretty pawn that Ubisoft put out to draw in drooling gamers. Raymond is now producing Splinter Cell: Blacklist and (as far as I can tell) has been staying largely out of the public eye. If that's her choice, I don't blame her. If it's Ubisoft's choice, that's a pisser. Either way, it's a real shame that Raymond can't do the exact same things other game producers do every day without people saying shitty things about her because she's female.
If a few people need to be fired to get the message across that it's time to stop acting like troglodytes and reducing every woman involved in the game industry down to her looks/sexuality, well, that's what fucking needs to happen.
Look what you wrote and read it. Now get over yourself.
If women want to be treated equal in the gaming industry then they need to learn to take the trolls like the men do. Not rely on a bunch of white knights and getting people fired.
Jade Raymond got shit because she got paraded around like a piece of meat.

I've pretty much decided that expansion packs are a thing of the past. Because everyone wants their content delivered now, DAMNIT, and the vehicles are available to deliver them in these chunks... Well, let's just say that Heart of the Swarm is going to be an outlier.
With that said, I do find it weird that publishers are moving back to the expansion pricing model, just delivered in chunks. Maybe that's where the equilibrium is? I remember Mechwarrior 4: Mercs did something similar, where a ton of mechs were released in smaller packs that pretty much added up to an expansion pack.

She is an actress who enjoys playing video games.
She's not. At all. That's imo also the real problem with this. It's the media surrounding her that paints her as such (even if she doesn't fight it). People are free to think of this what they want but she doesn't have to defend herself for it nor even react to critisism.
Which makes her silence/ignoring of the tweet actually commendable and the best reaction of all parties included.

Would I get shit if I got paraded around as a piece of meat? Keep in mind, I'm a dude.
I am really at my limits here on this thread, so here's the deal. The thread is taking a break for an unspecificed amount of time. You all fight too much, go off-topic too much, and generally treat the place like a chat thread. Every time I think the thread is improving, you all turn around and do something stupid.
Feel free to make individual threads on industry business. The sole exception is going to be sales numbers because that has a tendency for conversation to meander.

That pretty much sums it up.

If you're whole thing was going "look at me, I'm a guy and I worked on this game, also, I'm a guy."
Then yeah, you would get shit.
And by "that", I mean "giving people shit because of their gender".
It's not about that thought. It's about giving people special treatment because of their gender.
