Go find the fresh new Steam thread for a fresh new Steam sale
Just bought the XCOM Collection for $2.99. Which is absolutely bonkers.
Everyone should have this package that that price, hell, I have the disc of the XCOM Gold Collection just SITTING THERE on my shelf and I bought it again.
Finally got back from the airport, after a 5 hour delay, and now I am torn between the two larger Paradox packs on Amazon; the $19.99 one has all the Crusader Kings DLC (is that any good?) and Warlock, but doesn't have Sword of the Stars II, which must be at least half decent by now.
That said, the $12.50 one has SotS II, which I am willing to take a chance on, but lacks Majesty Gold, which I know nothing about, and the Crusader Kings DLC.
So I guess I am wondering if it's worth the extra $7.50 to get Warlock and most of the Crusader Kings DLC (and Majesty Gold, it seems) ?
And is SotS II still as bad as it was meant to be at launch?

Get the two smaller packs, the 7.49 and 12.49 ones. They have all the games from the 19.99 pack AND SotS II, all for 1 cent less! Unless that is what you were thinking. But still, probably a good deal as is (which is what I did). I hear Warlock is a good game, a modern style Master of Magic using the Civ5 Engine.

Thanks to @DudeMaYn for hooking a Canadian up with the X-COM complete pack.
Hmm I did have my eye on spec ops. Anyone have thoughts/convenient writeup?
Max Payne is still over my buy now price so it comes down to that and/or maybe ck2 since people where gushing over it
I bought Spec Ops a while ago and its amazing. The story is still unfolding but its brutal and the gun play is satisfying. Its worth more than what Amazon have it on for.

Warlock was decent. I played about one game of it and was done. The world exploration is pretty cool as you fight off all the fantasy monsters, but eventually it just gets kind of absurd. I had a city that was literally under constant assault by dragons. Place was goddamn lousy with dragons.
Also, be prepared to have nothing explained to you. For example, I got a quest from the gods to build a temple (Btw, you might as well accept all quests. You lose the same amount of favor if you decline as if you fail the quest) but then received no further instructions. I tried everything I could think of and didnt realize until three hours later that temples can only be built on holy ground which is quite rare.
As far as I can tell, the Civ 5 pack from amazon doesn't have the Korea/ancient wonders of the world and explorer's map pack (Unless that is the multiplayer map pack) included. That seems to be all that is missing from DLC though, is that right?

Aerynkelly is a gentleman and a scholar, and has gifted me Borderlands GOTY! Please do not give him bad rats or any other joke gift, for he deserves better.

Holy grounds are also basically the key to ultimate power in the game, since Temples give you access to the strongest units for your faction.
Except they're totally random and rare.
I dunno, Warlock is pretty neat but it feels really unpolished.

good rats if you will. the only other rats game on steam is tunnel rats. enjoy the gifts.

3. Syndicate: Don't know much about it, but it's cheap. People still playing it?
Not really, no. I bought it during the last Amazon PC sale and there were a few folks playing the co-op, but it quickly died off. The singleplayer is fun, but really dumb and linear, but I'd say it's worth $15. I can talk more about Syndicate at length if anyone cares.

I was all set to pass on Spec Ops after the okay but lackluster demo, but after reading some reviews that talk about how the game involves so much moral ambiguity that it becomes a Bioshock-style critique of the whole military shooter genre has me quite interested. I'll probably pass on Max Payne 3 and pick this up instead, but damn, that's one heck of a fast price drop.
13. Duke Nukem Complete Pack $7.99 (Steam activate-able) runs 7/1-7/14: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006MUXGVW
a. The base game - Duke Nukem Forever
b. The DLC Pack - Duke Nukem Forever Hail to the Icons Parody Pack DLC
c. And the DLC Pack - The Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC Pack
So how bad was Duke Nukem Forever? I know a lot of people were disappointed in it at launch but would it be worth $8?

"Steam account required for game activation and installation."
Also note the amusing 1-star reviews from people who think they were scammed by needing a "streaming" service like Steam or the one who thinks it's a backdoor for hackers because it's so old.
Second the recommendation on grabbing Spec Ops during Amazon's deal. It's got an incredibly interesting story and I'm having a blast with the firefights.
Daily is Zombie Driver. I'll admit the video looks sort of fun - I love top down racing games. How is it?
It is fun, and a lot more fun than it was at launch. You can ignore the story mode and head straight for the more arcadey (and much more fun) Slaughter and Blood Race modes.
The controls are nice (I've been using a gamepad, though), as well.

Unless you've got a damn impressive pedigree, "shooting people in the desert" isn't really something that gets people jumping anymore.
the amazon spec ops download activates on steam, right?
Yep, I've activated it on Steam and I'm downloading it as we speak.
Also, re: Zombie Driver, might as well just cut and paste my Steam review:
If you're looking for mindless, zombie-squashing arcade action, you should really pick this game up one of the roughly 20 times a year it's on sale for a few bucks. "But, check out that shitty Metacritic average!" you say. Well, yeah, the vanilla game does kinda fail - the "story mode" penalizes what any game called "Zombie Driver" should reward - plowing bumper-first into giant hordes of zombies. Fortunately, the two other game modes released (for free!) since launch really deliver on the promise of the original game. Slaughter Mode is all about driving through as many zombies as you can, plot be damned. Blood Race does a good job of mixing speed and destruction. It's not deep or nuanced, but seriously, you've spent more money on worse games.
But yeah, if you think you'd like a game called "Zombie Driver", then $2 is a good price.

$2.99, outrageous.
Must be a US thing. I'm seeing £29.99, which is standard
