I didn't know which of these I should buy or whether I should buy a different camera. I was looking for a camera around the price range of both of these and on Amazon.
In this price/size bracket, almost anything from the major manufacturers is going to be incredibly similar. The nikon has a tiny more on the long end of the zoom range, but the sony's lens is a bit faster on the wide end. My sister has the camera the S3300 replaced and it's a nice little camera that behaves well enough. Never used the sony, but I'd bet it's damned near identical.
Sorry this is a bit unhelpful, but again, in this range, the lens and sensors are going to be really similar, so mostly you should look for price/colors and perhaps any little features that may interest you like the Sony's autopano mode.

Can you try them in a store? Something as little as button placement or menu organization can bug the crap out of you if it's bad.
