(The title will change once we do the first session and create the character, setting and name the group :P)
***
these strange characters are the kind of people i'm looking for.
What is this?System:
Fate 3E, AKA Spirit of the Century.
Medium: IRC for the episodes with maybe some in-character stuff happening between the episodes in this thread.
Number of player: 3 to 5 players.
Schedule: Probably Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, from 7 or 8 PM to midnight EST, could change depending on the interested people's schedules.
Game Style: Loose rules, high RP, lots of action.
Notes: Won't be using the Spirit of the Century setting at all. Still, doesn't mean you won't sock a Nazi or two, but it's set in a modern world where occasionally, people have astounding skills, weird powers or incredible gear and fight each other in an over-the-top manner.
Any question will be answered as shortly as possible, and this post is subject to change, keep that in mind and check the post every once in a while.TABLE OF CONTENTS1. Game Data

What is FATE like?FATE is an open-source tabletop RPG characterized by it's lack of attribute scores, use of aspects and focus on storytelling over power-gaming.
FATE in a nutshell!
- Aspects are how you define your character as opposed to attributes. They can be colorful phrases, quotes or dryly descriptive clusters of words. For example, "Strong as an ox", "No one expects the Spanish inquisition", "hard to kill".
- Invoking an aspect is a way to use your attributes to gain bonuses while rolling.
- Compelling an aspect is a way for the GM to put a character in the spotlight, forcing you to RP the effect of an aspect for dramatic or storytelling purposes.
- Fate points are points each character has that can be used freely to invoke an aspect, tag an aspect in someone else, use stunts or make a declaration and can be obtained by allowing the GM to compel an aspect.
- Skills are what you roll with.
- Stunts are just that, special stunts your character knows.
- Declaration are a way for players to modify the scene or plot. For example, you can spend a fate point and declare that the warehouse has a skylight you can drop down from or that a door is unlocked while being chased.
- Fudge Die are what you roll, they are six-sided dice with two +, two - and two 0s.
There's more to it, which is why it's handy that the game is open-source.
You can get all the rules from this website, which is quite handy. What is No More Heroes? What is Killer 7?No More Heroes and
Killer7 are video games directed by japanese game designer
Goichi Suda AKA
Suda 51. They happen to be the primary inspiration for the game.
Starting with
Killer7, chronologically the first game released, though not the main inspiration, it is an on-rails shooter with a particularly interesting aesthetic. it tells the story of a killer for hire, Harman Smith, who possesses 7 distinct personalities that he may physically change into, each with their own abilities, weapon of choice and personality. The main antagonist is a cult leader known to Harman, who indoctrinated people and turned them into walking bombs with monstrous, demonic appearances and who are entirely invisible to the naked eye. it's a very weird game with ghosts, monsters, "super sentai" and criminals cast as the main characters. It represents, in a way, the upper limit of the ridiculousness I'm willing to reach.
What of
No More Heroes, then? This is the main inspiration and more like what i want this game to be like. It tells the story of a 27 year old otaku with no job, no prospects and no empathy. Winning a beam katana in an auction, he decided to become a killer for hire and enters the United Assassins Association. Ranked as the 11th best assassin, his goal for the game is to become number 1 by entering in fights against each assassin above him. Much more grounded than Killer7, he still fights a variety of killers, from a crooked cop to a superhero possessing a high-tech suit allowing him to shoot lasers and such. In other words, all sorts of weird and interesting characters. This is closer to what i am looking for in this game, namely, killers fighting other killers, each more over the top than the last.
Bonus inspiration! This is also inspired by
Kill Bill and the
Tarantinoverse. This is the lower limit of ridiculousness, normal kung-fu stuff, using hanzo steel to kill people, forming a team of assassins. If you've never played Goichi Suda's games, hopefully, you've at least seen Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill. Think those films dialed up to 11.
At the end of the day, the overall setting and spirit of the game will be dictated by the players, of course. So if the players think the primary inspiration is too over-the-top, it's okay, it can be dialed down to Tarantino levels and it'd still be very entertaining!
What will Assassins Be like?Assassins will be about a group of 3 to 5 killers who teamed up together to found their own agency. The setting will be entirely player-driven and player-created during the first session. Characters will be over-the-top, ridiculous, but with a sharp, dark edge to them. After all, they are all willing to kill people for money, no questions asked. (Or are they?) Point is, it sill be highly character-driven and with a storytelling focus, but don't discount that as meaning "minimal action", there will be a lot of over-the-top fights, that's for sure.
Also, the setting will be entirely player-designed and player-driven (thanks to the Dresden Files settings rules).
Do note that this is going to be inspired by NMH, not fanfic stuff. The only real link between this game and the inspiration is that the characters will be extremely colorful and over-the-top.
What do i do if i want to Join this game?
Simply post
!Sign up and, perhaps, post your availability schedule. If you're not available on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays from 7PM to midnight (EDT), it's ok, maybe we can work something out! Timezones are important, also.

Yeah, it's more or less the same, though I only read through the SotC rules myself.

*Edit* My time zone is central. Sunday is probably my least preferred day for the while, but if that's the majority rule, I will make it work.

Worst case scenario, i can sign you up as a reserve member, for when someone inevitably drops out? i don't want this to be too hard to play for you.

It is absolutely not a deal breaker.
Does anyone have a dicebot that has Fudge dice programmed? We won't need it for the first session, since it'll be mostly creation, but it'd be handy if someone had a dicebot for this
if not, i'll try to find one.
Don't worry, i always send a few reminders before games.
