They Come In 3s: RIP Andy Griffith, Ernest Borgnine, and Richard Zanuck

Yet another person whose work made my childhood has passed on. Andy Griffith died this morning at his home in North Carolina. He was 86. His biggest successes were The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock.
"You know when you're young you think you always will be." - Andy Griffith
Edit: Ernest Borgnine just died today, July 8th, at the age of 95. May the ship fly over and Airwolf take you away.
Edit2: Today, July 13th, Richard Zanuck died at the age of 77. He is the famous producer of Jaws, and Driving Miss Daisy.

one of my earliest memories is of watching matlock
i shit you not
he ended up proving that the witness was in on it because they said they saw the defendant through a window but it turned out the shade was down too far and there was no way to see their face
This sucks! I mean I've never watched Matlock or the Andy Griffith show but I can't deny the man was an icon.

Matlock always reminds me of when I was 11 and went to a farm in the middle of nowhere with my best friend to visit his grandma. We were bored as hell and played a shitload of NBA Live on the SNES. She only got a few channels on the TV and one of them seemed to have Matlock on nonstop and I got hooked on it while we were there.
When I got home I tried to watch it and in the face of all of the other options I found it incredibly boring.
I'll always have my 2 week addiction to Matlock though.

As someone born and raised in Mt. Airy (his hometown and basis for Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show)...well I am of mixed feeling. On the one hand, obviously I am anti-most anyone dying, and my condolences go to the friends and family. But that man is not exactly well liked in Mt. Airy, despite the fact that with the mills gone most of the "industry" left is the odd blue-haired tourism that show generates. Floyd's barber shop, Snappy Lunch, both are all too real. You can get tours in old fashioned squad cars.
The problem comes with the fact that he historically fought tooth and nail to profit off anything even vaguely referencing the show, apparently successfully driving a few people out of business.
Well, that, and who honestly wants people to think of their town in terms of Barney and Gomer Pyle.

There is a pronominal burger stand that only plays The Andy Griffith Show in loop in it. I can't tell you how many lunches I have spent watching his show. I used to watch it late at night when I was a kid to on Nick@Nite. It is sad to see him go, he had a great sense of morals and was a pretty alright guy.

At least Don Knotts has his straight man up in Heaven now.
So you're saying we need to kill Ron Howard to complete the set?

I loved Matlock. It used to be the only thing on when I got home from school, so I'd watch it almost every day.

You should look into The Andy Griffith Show. It's full of iconic characters and it holds up very well in both humor and general entertainment.
One of the all-time classic characters on one of the all-time classic shows.
RIP Andy.
Shed a little tear for my two favorite old dudes
Ron Howard can't be killed until he finishes narrating the new season of Arrested Development
Then he can go
I was going to post this because I whistle and snap my fingers to this quite a bit while at work.
I also loved his stand up, the dude was funny as hell (at least I always thought so)
RIP Andy
thx for helping Don Knotts get his break
