Developed by Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and Devil May Cry 4 director Hideaki Itsuno and the rest of their team, Dragon's Dogma is a unique blend of games that, in short, has you create a character, choose your class, recruit and share party members from and with your friends, and explore a fully open-ended fantasy setting to complete quests and hunt giant monsters. What's most interesting is what they've taken from Shadow of the Colossus, however.
Eventually the beast's wings catch fire and it tumbles to the ground. A quick sprint and we're up close, hacking and slashing with our daggers. But with a press of the R2 button we can grab the beast anywhere, then cling on for dear life, climbing, pulling at its feathers, stabbing frantically, eking down that boss life bar.
Grabbing onto and climbing around bosses is one of Dragon Dogma's most impressive features , and certainly the most thrilling one we've been shown so far. As the griffin flies into the air we hang on for dear life, moving about its body with animations that link together in a silky smooth, realistic fashion. We move from the tail to the back, seeking out weak spots, to the point where we're almost riding it. And stabbing it, of course.
"In a lot of action games, with big enemies the tendency is just to have you hacking away at the shins. You don't get the full effect of fighting a giant boss," Itsuno says. "With this game you can climb all over it. If it has a body part, you can attack it."
The grab attack levels up our interest in Dragon's Dogma. On the ground it lets you pick up smaller enemies and chuck them about, and enables you to come up behind them and hold them in a grip, allowing your pawns to kill them. But it is when used against the game's huge monsters that the grab shines brightest.
Capcom has assembled their largest team to date for Dragon's Dogma. It released in North America on May 22, 2012 and May 25, 2012 for Europe.

By loading it, you can start from the beginning with all your items, leveled vocations, vendor inventory, and NPC affinity status. Monsters are not tougher, but new quests appear on the notice boards with even greater rewards.
Wakestones - Wakestones allow you to bring the dead back to life. This can be used on you, your party members or even other characters in the game world. You may wish to keep that in mind as it can offer interesting new solutions to various quests and further rewards.
Earning Gold - In New Game+, there will be new quests offering very large gold rewards for their completion. But if you want gold now and don't want to spend the time it takes to do those quests, you can abuse the Strider's Pilfer/Master Thief ability. Simply find a pawn roaming the safety of the roads (it does not work inside the cities) and use that ability on them. You'll often find powerful and
valuable healing potions, tools, or even equipment. You can refresh their inventory by moving outside of their viewable distance and then back again. They generally carry the same item you originally nicked, though not always. A good route is to leave by Gran Soren's southern exit and then head north, across the bridge, to the castle and then back again.
Forging - You can forge duplicates of items with rift crystals or gold, depending on the quality of the item, by visiting the Black Cat shop in Gran Soren. This comes in handy for certain quests, such as needing the same item to two people or if the required item is something you want to keep for yourself. You can do this with no negative repercussions for notice board quests. It's unwise to do this for quests given by persons, with the exception of the Wyrmking Ring. It's highly recommended to forge it.
Fast Travel? - There is a method of fast travel in the game, though it will become more widely available to you in New Game+. Ferrystones allow you to instantly teleport to a portcrystal. There is a permanent portcrystal in Gran Soren. Later in the game, during a quest, you'll find a portcrystal you can place anywhere on the map. Eventually you'll be able to buy portcrystals for 200,000 gold at the Black Cat in Gran Soren. Ferrystones can be bought from Fournival for 10,000 if you help him during a quest later in the game and from the Black Cat for 20,000. Prices can be reduced if you do further quests for Fournival and gain affinity with the shopkeepers.
Escort Quests - Escort quests allow you to raise the affinity of certain characters, as well as occasionally having worthy item rewards for completing them. They will only be available on the notice boards for a small amount of time, however, typically a scant few in-game days. If you miss one, you may be able to make it available again by raising that character's affinity via presents.
Augments - Augments are passive bonuses unlocked by raising your vocation level. But once you unlock and purchase them, they can be used across all vocations. A Fighter may be a better tank if you acquire a few Warrior augments first!
Shortcuts - Directly west of and a short run from Gran Soren is a place called the Ancient Quarry. It cuts through the mountain to a lake on the other side that's also very close to the Shadow Fort. Unfortunately, the Ancient Quarry is at first full of goblins, bandits and three ogres, but completing a quest from a merchant just outside its entrance will allow you to clear its halls permanently. A new merchant with powerful gear will even set up shop in one of its rooms once the deed is done. A second shortcut in the Witchwood - a path next to Selene's hut - will place you right next to Cassardis, but unfortunately it only works that direction.
Golden Idol - Eventually, Caxton and Magdeleine in Gran Soren will offer you a quest to find rare idols from a blacksmith in order to upgrade their inventory. The Golden Idol is the most prized. You can acquire it by completing Fournival's second available quest, which requires you to escort and entertain his daughter Symone around town. You must complete her requests in a timely fashion or you'll risk losing the reward.
The first task is to play hide-and-seek, and she'll run inside the inn next to the fireplace. The second task is to bring her a flask of water. The third and final task is to race her to the southern gate. You will want to let her win, but don't make it easy. Run (don't sprint) as fast as you can behind her, zigzagging if you get too close. You'll then be transported back to her home where Fournival will thank you for a job well done. Talk to Symone before you leave and she will hand you the Golden Idol.
[Classes]
This information was taken from the
unofficial wikia.
Basic vocations are the first tier of the nine available vocations. They are unique to each other and each one provides various strengths. Basic vocations can eventually be upgraded to Advanced vocations.
There are three Basic vocations available:
Fighter - The Fighter focuses on the combination of sword and shield abilities.
Strider - The Strider uses a combination of daggers and bows and is capable of performing a double-jump.
Mage - The Mage uses a variety of magic and is the only vocation that can use curative magic.
Advanced vocations are the second tier of the available nine vocations in Dragon's Dogma. They are more powerful versions of the Basic vocations and can combine to achieve Hybrid vocations.
The available Advanced vocations are:
Warrior - A more powerful version of the Fighter that focuses on two-handed weapons.
Ranger - A more powerful version of the Strider that focuses on longbows.
Sorcerer - A more powerful version of the Mage that focuses on offensive magick.
Hybrid vocations are the last tier of the nine vocations in Dragon's Dogma. As the name implies, Hybrid vocations combine aspects of the three Advanced vocations. Only your main character, the Arisen, is able to become a Hybrid vocation.
There are three Hybrid vocations available:
Mystic Knight - The Mystic Knight combines aspects of the Warrior and Sorcerer, and is the only class that can use magick shields.
Magick Archer - The Magick Archer combines aspects of the Ranger and Sorcerer, and is the only class that can use magick bows.
Assassin - The Assassin combines aspects of the Ranger and Warrior, and has no unique weapons but can use a large variety of other weapons.

Did you know there's a greenwarish on top of a pillar in Savan's prologue?
Got it.
Edit: Since I see the OP again, I might as well mention that I didn't do any zig-zagging when racing Symone. I stopped whenever I was getting the lead instead. Still Golden Idol.
Edit: Just saw a slightly-annoying video. It doubles the available voices to choose from. but I think they're really just pitch-shifted versions of the existing voices. Still, if you're tired of pawns sounding alike it might work for you.
Also adds a set of armor, I believe it's Julilenne's ... and unlocks a FIFTH row of colors in all character editing categories, a row which you cannot unlock via the Rift Crystals shop.

I do like extra colours. Stupid frivolous spending.
Hah, corpses. I'm enchanting a bandit / now bandit-corpse with Frost Riposte. Glory.
Edit: A place in the Wategod's Altar is "too narrow to pass through." Short characters?
As for good news, I've managed to create tiny-yet-recognizable up/down arrows to help indicate when chests are in a cave or overhead. There's a few spots where accessible places overlap, such as the last gate before Gran Soren, both bandit forts, and at the Tomb of the Unknown Traveller/Caverns of Delusion. The terrain map alone can't indicate elevation and I wanted it to be clear where the chests were.

It's great for leveling and obtaining hard to find/endgame materials. But as for 'The Point'

The game hasn't ended yet.
As for wandering around in the new overworld, that's there for people who want to.
I spent a lot of time killing dragon's in the post game. They're so much fun.
That is all.
New thread new vid! This one shows triple casting.
Information is in the description.

There's also a Wyrm and Wyvern in Watergod's Altar and at the top of Bluemoon Tower. Both speak in English and say things that make you wonder...
And as Morninglord says, you haven't seen the true ending yet. It's amazing.
This game is a blast thus far. The only weird thing I found is that I've hit level 13 and now all the Pawns I can recruit look like high level twinks, for lack of a better phrase. I can only assume that either there's a lot more cool looking equipment in the next town after the Fort or something fishy is going on here.
Yeah, there is a pretty noticable increase of gear options from good ol' Caston in Gran Soren compared to what you can get in Cassadis and what Reynard sells at that point in the game.
Though in some cases, it might be people that bought some of the gear DLC and are now strutting out thier pawns with it.
EDIT:If you're doing every little quest and notice board task you can find, you'll propably run into the same thing again at about level 25 or so, again again in the late 40's early 50's, when people who didn't do and/or missed those quests get to the other two major tiers of new gear before you.
I mean, I do have a spare Ascalon sitting around...
They even gave her a unique carry animation. I wouldn't have been as annoyed if I had just heaved her over my shoulder like a useless sack of potatoes.
Also hopped in on Gen 88 ur-dragon and was on when it died.. Getting some of the drops is going to be tedious, I've already gotten 3 ascalons and 2 staves.
This game contains two weaknesses that absolutely will be the death of me: lots of equipment to collect, and a system to improve the gear through materials/money and dragonforging. I think I've still got a number of hours more to play. :P
"Why don't I have a dropkick?"
That's what I thought when I jumped.
Why don't I have a dropkick?
Edit: @ Pawn-arrogance: Bugged and never finished the line, "Hobgoblins are weak against the cold."
"Hobgoblins are weak"
Edit: And mockery: "I cannot breach its armor!" Instant death, just add stab.
Yeah, I'm the type who tries to get every quest I can possibly find done... which is usually my own undoing in RPG's.
I'm pretty amazed at how many quests pop up when you backtrack. I can definitely see how people could miss a lot of content in this game if you just continually press forward.
Edit: There is nobody in the Residence at night. I looked in a hard to reach window. Magick stalker.
On top of that, you can cram almost every npc with presents until they give up an escort quest, so conceivably you could have a lot of questing to do.
Six dragon things to slaughter. Already counted the one in bluemoon.
Somehow the one in watergod avoided my dragon slaughtering wrath. Next time I hit NG+ this shall be corrected.
Eight if you count the two in everfall.
Nine if you count the Ur-dragon. Incidentally I went from 200 000 to 4 million from two Ur-dragon kills. I sold the drops, the scales sell for a premium at fournivals and all the other bits are worth bucketloads. Plus the wakestones. It is a fantastic way to get fast cash.
Which I need cos I gotta buy one of everything. For me. Because I want it.
Whoa, I didn't even know you could do that.
Any other minor, spoiler-free tips I should know about?
I'm somewhat curious if there's a trick to climbing. Is there anyway to launch yourself further up or rest to regain stamina ala Shadow of the Colossus? I feel like there should be more to it beyond R2+Hold Up, but that may only because SotC inadvertently set my expectations a long time back.
For stamina regain, just pop a few mushrooms or meat or whatever you have on hand.
And Morninglord, you're just like me. I must have it all. Luckily I think I've bought ever piece of gear already, but its gonna be a lot of money to enhance. And a heap of ur-dragon fighting for the unique drops, ugghghh.
Jump while holding on is a lot higher than a normal jump and the grab itself should be thought of as an attack with a hitbox that needs to connect to the monster part. So you hit grab once to grab on, you press jump, then you hit grab again when you are near the monster part you want to grab.
What the fuck am I doing I made a video about this so I wouldn't have to explain it. Do this.

Cyclops is the easiest monster to learn this on since they don't move around much.
I have leapt straight up a drake's hovering tail to catch it's foot, then leapt from it's foot to it's neck.
I figured it was possible, but I'm still getting used to the game overall. My muscle memory kicked in and I found myself pressing buttons as if I was playing SotC a couple times. Now that I've kicked that habit, I can focus on tricks like that.
Thanks!
Thanks to all who assisted me in my journey...oh and Ish finished with a 5 star combat rating!
Ended up with
Of course, his offer to eat her and then leave is a bit suspect, considering that's what the duke chose and yet here the dragon is again 20 years or whatever later.
Stay tuned.
Ha really? I'm gonna have to check that out.
At least Rockstar came to their senses, Capcom is probably more stubborn
Like they even had some bullshit reasons for it too. Well, I guess they do seem to have a full staff of excuse makers, there's something good in their favor. :?
Link
That said, he be dead. When does it respawn? M-my Tatters! No!
I heard very little of the latin. The rhythm, sure, but a Drake's voice is just HRM-HHHERRUM-FHRUM-FHRUM-MRR'RR'RHE'RM.
Could you tell what kind it is? Classical? Medieval? Renaissance?
Grabbing the tail is hard. Broad Slash was great. Holy Fortress is tricky. It has to block from an angle because if fire hits me head on I'll still burn? I preferred Frost Riposte. I used light-enchanted Magick Cannons to decimate goblins, but I was eventually running around Ruinous-slamming them anyway. Like half of them were blinding artillery. They risk their lives in a Clash of the Titans just out of spite.
Kept my party alive. No 3-3-3-stars from me yet. It's hard to stop sprinting in time to revive, so I overshoot all the time.
I dealt the most damage with Ruinous Sigil. Can the tail be severed? I noticed horns and wings falling all over the place.
I'm really glad I can count on Jack to keep everything tidy, so I don't have to run around the whole area picking wyrm-bits out of the teeth of every squirrel.
I like the little kill-detail. Like any other death is just beneath the jackass, so he won't die even when he's dead.
Huh, two Drake's Tears. Whatever those are. Look interesting.
Edit: I didn't check my level before. Now it's 50, at any rate.
Question: if someone's pawn picks up an item and I release them, do they keep the items they've picked up?
