So I buy sandwiches from the local deli. I've been going to this particular market for roughly 87 years now - it'a a neighborhood staple and they know me and I know them.
The deli itself has relatively high turnover. There are a few sandwich veterans there. And the rookies do a decent job, too, except for one thing...
The rookies seem to have this habit of wrapping my sandwich in aluminum (aka aluminium) foil and THEN cutting it in half. Due to the cheap nature of this foil, it kind of splinters off into the sides of my sandwich. I only noticed this because I'm anal.
What should I do? Should I tell the deli folk? Tell the manager? Eat the foil sprinkles? It's kind of a major hassle to locate and remove them manually as they are almost microscopic.
That's weird. Every sandwich place I've been to, it's always cut, then wrap.
Like Mushroom said, just ask they cut it before they wrap it. It shouldn't be a huge issue for them. If it is, then mention it to the manager.
Helpfully ask them to cut it first before wrapping it in foil because then foil gets in your sandwich? Don't they make the sandwich up on some sort of chopping board anyway?

Just say something to them. They're just going to shrug and say "Ok". It's not going to be an issue.
And don't pitch a fit like NotYou suggested, it's not like the inside of your sandwich is littered with foil. That's a goose move.

Esh is right on both accounts. Its very weird for them to wrap it and then cut it, and you should mention it. If you know one of the vets, flag them down and just casually tell them, and I'm sure it wont happen anymore.
Notyou suggestion is a great way to get a foil and cheese sandwich wrapped in fuck you, so I wouldn't do that.
The whole point of wrapping it up is so the juices and such don't all leak out of the sandwich into the bag. Cutting it after you wrap it is stupid. At minimum you can ask for them to not do it that way.
Are these hot sandwiches? In my experience, hot sandwiches are wrapped in foil and cold in paper.
If hot, ask them to cut before wrapping.
If cold, ask to have them wrapped in paper instead of aluminum.
It's not hard. Sometimes new deli guys take a minute to catch on. I had a guy who would cut the deli pickle along the width when I asked for one on the side.
Do you know the owner, or at least someone high enough up to make a difference and on a first name basis? Just call him over (preferably away from the new recruits, as this really isn't their fault and wouldn't be fair to make it seem like it's their fault) and state your concern.
I am sure any business appreciates a concern over a process that may be affecting the quality of their product.
typically all sandwiches i get are wrapped twice. once in paper, then cut, then in foil if it's hot, more paper if it's not. I'm assuming the rookies are just doing it wrong? if the veterans are doing it the right way, and the rookies are just slapping some foil on there, i'd tell somebody. who knows what other policies they are skimping on?
Drez man, don't worry. Just don't act like a raging douche-bag or make them give you a free sandwich. Just be like, "hey man can you cut my sandwich before you wrap it? The aluminium breaks off inside my sammich"
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

Seems like the best idea of the bunch. Just be flat out honest with it and they will go along with it.
I mean, who would say "you're supposed to have foil flakes in there!" and refuse?
Throw them a molotov bomb and write "No more tin foil! " with aerosol paint, also bring some tools, like a baseball bat or a wrench, and let them know that you are not going to stand being abused like this anymore!
(or just let them know your sandwich preference like a normal person would)
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen
If I'm at a sandwich shop and their knife looks nasty, I just jokingly say, "Please don't cut it, because I'm going to put the entire thing in my mouth," in a very Tobias Funke sort of way.

Assuming there is visible foil flakes in your sandwich, you should complain and get the sandwich for free.

that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

That's what I figure, to be honest.
I don't really want to call them on it, but I probably should. Tactfully, like others suggested.
Thanks, all, for the suggestions.

I believe that will work here too.
