Pwning at DDR

So I found out today that for my shift on Thursday I'm going to be playing DDR against randoms that happen to come into the library. This happens to be the arcade version, I've barely ever played it before. Any tips/tricks to be decent, not break anything, and be able to last a while?

Practice will be your only hope on this one, man. Go find thyself an arcade and get hopping.

Don't try to overshoot yourself. You just look stupid if you're someone who plays Light but "Hey, how hard can Heavy really be?"

Playing on an arcade machine takes a lot more stamina than your standard home pad. Just the added weight of shoes and the fact the steps are embedded deeper in the pad means you'll have to lift your feet higher to move between steps. Definately bring plenty of water and don't overexert yourself if you're going to be playing for long periods of time. This may depend on your area and local DDR culture but bar raping makes you look ridiculous in my opinion. Also, make sure to stretch out before starting and take a break to massage any aches as necessary.

If you're just starting out, do not, under any circumstance, return your feet to the center like on the beginner level movies. When you step on a panel when the arrows display, leave your foot there, use your other foot for the next step, and leave it there until the next step. On 4 foot rating and up, you'll see 3 arrows go up to the space, (example: left up down) in this example, you use your left foot, then right foot, then left foot again. Just a few tips that I got that made me get better. If there's a person that's really good at the game, also check out his stepping on the pads while he plays.

    Practice, practice, practice.

That's, uh, it. I mean actually it. There's no tactics or anything.
