I have an internal HD (formatted in FAT) in an external enclosure attached to my Macbook Pro through Firewire. The first day I had it, it kept locking up as I copied all my music (25 gigs), but I sorta solved that by dividing everything up instead of copying all at once. It worked fine for a while, and then started freezing up again while I was listening to music in iTunes (it does this randomly, I still can't figure out the circumstances). It also freezes up when dealing with a lot of photo work.
None of this happens when I'm booted into Windows XP, though.
Is it the HD, the enclosure/connection, or OS X? And how do I fix it?
