But only usable in those levels

Feels like there'd be a weird disconnect there

Reverts were kind of an exploit, though to be fair

Those original maps weren't designed with reverts in mind. And you can still do the animation, it just doesn't chain your combos together.

I think it's the best solution, really

I'm honestly just giving up on Tony Hawk HD

    It's a travesty

They've somehow taken elements of two of the best Tony Hawk games and made the most unenjoyable Tony Hawk experience yet

Of course, I haven't played Proving Ground beyond the demo, and never played Ride or...whatever the sequel to Ride was

But I enjoyed Tony Hawk 1-8 all more than I enjoyed this, warts and all

I remember when I used to one-shot every single goal in the Hangar on my first run

Now the controls are just so utterly fucked...goddamn

The weird thing is, it's not even something that's easily quantifiable. The reason those eight games are all more enjoyable is that they all have that Neversoft feel. The way Nintendo has gotten that Mario feel down, Neversoft had it with the Tony Hawk franchise, and when someone else tried to recreate it, shit has gone awry.

without reverts it feels like I'm being limited by the game, rather than my skill. I want to keep a combo going, but there's absolutely no way to do so.

reverts, mid-grind trick changes, being able to straighten out off of a vert ramp, spine transfers...

THPS has never been about realism, its about ridiculous combos, and without some of the things that let you do that, the game won't feel right.

Yeah but none of that stuff was in the games these maps came from. Throwing all that stuff into a level as simple as the warehouse would just lead to insane, leaderboard-breaking scores. I understand the decision to leave it out, it's more faithful to the original games.

Which isn't to say this game doesn't have issues, like the limited selection of levels or the controls or how weird it all looks, but if you were going to pop in THPS and play the warehouse you wouldn't be able to do this stuff either. And now eight scores integrated into the game and shared as tightly as they are, imposing restrictions on the combos makes even more sense

That skate 3 video is amazing.

Yeah, lack of reverts is seriously not an issue at all with me

The main problem is at the end of the day they're charging $15 for a product that is far inferior to games they're based on from over 12 years ago

If my PS3 were still working I'd just pop in my copy of 2 right now to wash away that HD flavor

Well now I am remembering how much I hate reverts and how much I love soundtracks.

So glad Superman made the cut for the soundtrack. I was sweating bullets when I heard a lot of the music was getting dropped.

[Edit] I guess Superman was the only song ported from THPS1. They had one shot and they nailed it.

Okay slowly figuring out Skate 3. I didn't know what the fuck for vert tricks for the longest time. The tutorial doesn't explain much!

The first one I played was THPS2, so I never got to play the original warehouse level. My only exposure to it prior to this is on THUG2 Remix, which had reverts and spines and wall tags and basically everything you need to keep a combo going forever.

And thats just the way I like it

Vert's the hardest part of those games because it's nothing at all like the Tony Hawk games. Everything else is roughly analogous but the vert's just totally different.

I love the Skate games so much. The stuff they did with "hey move this here and there! make the world your own!" I could have done without but overall they're so good.

You know what? Demo for this shit aint near half as bad as some folks have been saying. It feels like tony hawk to me, or close enough that fifteen bucks is worth it.
