It seems that the Syrian uprising is reaching a new phase. Rebel fighters are clashing with government troops all over the city. Various government ministers have been assassinated in a bomb attack. Perhaps this is the beginning of the end?

I think the security forces will prevail for now, but the government's grip on power is getting more precarious by the day. Perhaps the bombing was an inside job designed to get rid of officials who might be thinking about jumping ship?

Anyways, I will be keeping a close eye on this one. If the rebels do take the capital, I believe a great bloodletting will happen, since, unlike the civil war in Libya, the rebel army is not a unified unit with a strong central command. Things could descend into chaos quickly - much like the civil war in Yugoslavia.
