Hey guys, I'm now dealing with a Kindle Fire for the foreseeable future. I'm curious about a few things.
First, the external storage situation. From what (very little) research I've done, it doesn't take SD/Mini-SD cards. It does have a mini-usb port, but as I've heard it described, you'd need a third-party program to transfer stuff, kinda like iTunes. This is not ideal for me, since all the machines in my house run open-source operating systems (Ubuntu, Arch and FreeBSD).
Are there any file manager apps for this thing that would allow me browse a connected external HDD (or in general I guess)? What are the chances that I can browse the filesystem on the Fire if I just connect it to my laptop?
(edit)
I've managed to get 'into' the device and browse around, and I copied a video over, but it doesn't show up in the video library. Is there a good media player app that I need?
(edit again)
Alright, I probably should have spent more than five minutes with the thing before posting this. Turns out it has a 'gallery' app built-in that does what I need it to do, and I found a free filemanager. Not sure if it's any good, but we'll see.
Thanks.

The fire is drag n' drop. I've never used a file manager to put anything on it. I think you could also root it and use dropbox if you wanted to, but I've never done so.
Disclaimer- I don't know jack-shit about Linux systems.
