Of Dice and [Chat]

It seems that CF does not currently have its own [Chat] thread, at least not one that I was able to dig up in the massive pile of threads that is our sub-forum. Many of the other sub-forums have a general [chat] thread and some of you may even post in them. For those of us that do not, I thought it would be a swell idea to have one of our own here in CF. A [chat] would offer up a place where we could talk about whatever mindless drivel we think about during our days/get to know one another a little better. As someone who has only recently come back from a rather long hiatus myself, I would cherish the opportunity talk with the other people that frequent the sub-forum in a more casual setting.

So I suppose I shall start. How was your day CF? Need to get anything off your chest? I totally turned down free cake at work today. Free. Cake.

Mine was fairly well. I found a new job to apply to and after spending most of yesterday helping a friend study for the bar exam, she apparently did really well.

Kilnaga, I hate to break it to you, but I think the free cake was a lie.

It totally wasn't a lie. They brought it right up in my face all "take the cake."

I support this plan, but did you clear it with a mod? Some sub-forums don't have [chat] threads for a reason -- for one thing, they're much harder to police than other threads.

In any case, my day was pretty dang good. I am almost a full day ahead on my work now, so I'll be able to multi-task tomorrow at the office and get some more prep work done for my first 13th Age session.

I ate toasted crickets. They were delicious, but unfortunately few others shared the same sentiment.

I messaged multiple people asking before I posted but got no reply after a few days. I figure if we've been bad little forumers starting it up they'll just lock the thread. We're a rather small sub-forum compared to G&T/D&D , so I don't foresee us having too big a problem policing the [chat] thread. >_>

Also, I love using work time as prep time for RPGs. I can actually draw out giant maps on my battle mat at work because my desk is big enough.

I can't say I've ever had crickets, but I've had shark. Shark is pretty darn good.

Shark is good, but I feel guilty whenever I eat one.

The crickets (salt and vinegar flavored) tasted like sunflower seeds. Mmmmmmm.

hmm the phalla sign-up thread sometimes went into chat territory in the past and the mods often came in hard and heavy :I
well I exaggerate but they put a stop to things and that's why you don't see much banter in there

See, now I'm going to have to go out and try me some of this. I go through bags of sunflower seeds like nobody's business.

That seems like it would be an issue with quite a few of the threads in CF. We have multiple general discussion type threads, but they are all for specific topics (Board Games/RPGs/etc). We don't have anything that is just plain old general/casual chat.

Where were you when you had them crickets?

I'd want me some authentically-prepared cricket. And to learn the recipe.

Pet geckos in the next room. Crickets for food. LOUD crickets. Chirpin' all night long. Might be about to get what's comin' to em.

I tried shark for the first time this spring, and literally the next day learned that they're being overfished. :( Of course, I really should have known better. Apex predators aren't meant to be consumed, so they've evolved to be relatively sparsely populated.

There's a taqueria here in DC that sells cricket tacos. I've been curious to try them, but can't convince anyone else this is an adventure worth having.

Sometimes I have ideas for things.

About the cricket, it was only a gift shop snack. I long to try some REAL cricket though!

Yup, that's why I could never eat shark fin soup again...

    You convinced me!

Where I live (Toronto) they've banned shark fin soup entirely. Of course, people just drive out to the suburbs, but you have to start somewhere I guess.

Do you live in/around DC? There are so many of us in the woodwork here, so there are bound to be enough for a cricket-eating outing. Technically grasshoppers, I guess. In tacos. It's on Oyamel's dinner menu.

Unfortunately, I live in the other side of the States (Bay Area, CA). I bet I can google some grasshopper eateries in my area though. :P

I could do the same here in Scotland and we can synchronise.

  • KilnagaKilnaga Registered User regular
I could do the same here as well, but where I live in FL I think we have a larger abundance of frogs hopping around than crickets.

Silence does not mean consent. Just because you don't get an immediate reply does not mean you get carte blanch to do what you want.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
