Something is wrong with my nipple

So there is something wrong with my right nipple. It feels like their is something right under it and it can sometimes be sore when i poke and prod it. Like a glob of something approximately the size of a bean. I am calling the doctor tomorrow morning to make an appointment. Its been there about 2 weeks.
So I am wondering if anyone has any ideas about this or can tell me anything.

Probably just a cyst (in which case it'll need to be drained, brace yourself), but yeah. Good move to go to the Doc. Boobal cancer ain't just for the ladies.

This is good advice. Hopefully it is just a cyst (eww..) and not a cancerous tumor or something. Did you get like punched in the chest recently? It could be a little bit of clotted blood. Any discoloration?

This is pretty normal. It happens to a lot of guys. Basically, its a mini boob. Usually they just kinda go away on their own. In extreme cases they give you shots of testosterone or even surgery (saw an article on a kid that had one the size of a peach). Anyways, this happened to me when I was about 12 or 13 and I really thought it was weird, but the doc said it was no big deal.

(Im assuming youre a guy here)

Yeah I am a guy, a few of my friends have been in the mood of giving titty twisters lately, so I figure its nothing. But it nevers hurts getting it checked out, and no there is no discoloration, in fact it looks completely normal, you cannot even tell anything is different from looking.

What it is likely to be has a lot to do with your age, your gender, whether you've bruised that area recently, and so on. I'm a doctor, but my advice boils down to this: you shouldn't ask an internet forum for help about health issues until a doctor sees you for real and gives you a diagnosis. Nobody can diagnose things like this at a distance, so we can't know what's going on; and if forumers can't know what's going on, they can't possibly give you good advice about what to do.

That said, regardless of your age, gender, and so on, set that appointment in the morning and forget about the lump until then. It is very, very rare for acute problems (the ones that need to be taken care of ASAP) to present in the breast. So, get yourself scheduled right now, make sure to keep the appointment you make, and take it easy unless your doc says there's a problem.

Would the fact that he works out a lot and never sleeps have anything to do with it?

Also, if you get it cut out, you should skip the anesthetics for practice in case of combat bullet wounds.

I understand needing to be seen by a doctor and thats why I made sure to say I was already planning on that. Just wanted to see what others had to say.

That's good, I'm glad that you're handling it responsibly (I apologize for being a bit anal about the subject, but...it's my job). I think your doc will be interested to know about the titty-twisters up front, maybe even on the phone if you don't get an office manager.

Same here. They felt like discs and made the area tender to the touch. It went away around age 14 but I was left with a larger chest area than is normal for a guy. Nothing too serious, just noticable with certain shirts.

I had the exact same thing when I was about 12/13. Don't worry about it, it's just a slight glandular swelling due to hormonal changes (I'm assuming you're around that age and not 30 or something.) I was worried I was growing boobs randomly or had some odd sort of nipple cancer, but my doctor just said it was a gland thing and it'd go away on it's own. If you're really worried go see a doctor, but it's actually pretty common and nothing to worry about, so don't sweat it.

Actually, there can be many causes of a breast lump in males, not just what you describe. Gynecomastia is only around the third or fourth most likely possibility from the information in the thread, and much less if fliphcc isn't around the age of puberty. A health professional should take history and feel the lump for its size, consistently, movability, and margin to decide whether it needs to be looked into further or not.

Thirded. Happened when I was about that age, disappeared after a couple months.

My first thought is a cyst. How firm is it?

I am 20. The lump is fairly firm, not much give to it at all. It does not feel as if it is connected to anything as I can grab completely around it. I have an appointment in 2 hours from now, so I will see what the doc has to say shortly.

It might be a sebacious cyst. I just had one in my chest recently, and had to have it cut out.

    No big deal.

Yeah, sounds like a cyst to me, especially if you can grab the whole thing.

Well back from the docs office. Apparently he believes that some protein shakes I have been drinking are causing a hormonal imbalance and thats what the problem is. So I am to stop using that for now, had my blood drawn to check that and I am also scheduled to see a surgeon in case that is not the problem.
    Nothing to worry about though.

Interesting! I was leaning towards fat necrosis, myself (the way that breast fat heals after trauma can leave a firm lump). Hopefully things resolve themselves when you stop the protein shakes.

Excellent, you are of course right, but it used to be illegal to say that here. Just checked the rules and I can't find it anymore, has reason prevailed?

Glad all was ok OP - if it was firm & fairly sizeable, why not keep it for entertainment?

I'm newish, so I didn't know. I don't want to discourage people from posting these kinds of problems, but it's important to take the answers with a grain of salt. Well, a pound of salt.

Where I can see the help/advice coming in is when people want to know whether they should be worried enough to go to the doc, or not, and to which doc ("I'm bleeding from my X, should I hit the ER or wait for a primary care appointment?"). In those threads I usually see a lot of people confirming that person's intuition that things are bad, so they eventually opt to get help. Common sense and objectivity, the staples of H/A, are helpful in that case.

Coming here for the diagnosis itself is just a really bad idea.
