If I was invited to partake in deciding someone's fate, it might be fun to argue for determinism and explain how no one is actually guilty.

while i was still in law school, i got selected for a jury. small time felony drug trafficking case. worst part was that i was only selected as an alternate, so i got to sit through the presentation of evidence and the testimony for both sides, but couldn't actually vote as a juror unless one of the main jurors got sick or had to leave or something.

i had told the judge and the defense counsel during voir dire that i was a law student. i think the judge interpreted that as "oh goody lemme give this kid a practical experience!"

At lawyer school, do they teach you to be entertaining so the jury pays more attention to you?

ya it's basically like being a theatre major

Everyone is stabbing each other in the back and/or sleeping together?

But then the rest of the jury could argue for doing anything to the defendant on the same grounds.

Determinism is shit at getting people to stop doing things from a philosophical prospective. No room for "should". Only do and don't.

I got summoned to jury duty at the start of the year, I thought I was supposed to go downtown and since parking is like $arm for an hour I got a ride. We're pulling in to downtown and I'm going over my jury summons and realize I was actually supposed to go to the east county court house, and we turn around and go.

I read a book for 2 hours, then they let us all go because no cases were going to trial that day, I then took public transit home and watched some pregnant gang member fight 2 non pregnant gang members

I wanna be on Jury Duty but I've never been, I'm 24 now so 6 years? Oh well.

I watched the Jury Duty movie more times than I care to admit to strangers on an web forum. And by that I mean an embarrassing amount of times.

Last time I was called it was for a case that was predicted to last at least a month.
I was actually really hoping to get picked, since my employer does like 60 days of paid time off for jury duty anyway and I'd rather watch a slick city lawyer fight off a frivolous asbestos lawsuit than go do my actual job every day. Also it was fascinating watching assholes try to worm their way out of duty, and the judge was a rad lady.
On the third day of jury selection they made us come in at 7AM and wait 3 hours so we could assemble and find out the case was settled.
