Quick question about backing up my computer

I feel like I have an ongoing computer crisis. Anyway, about an hour ago, my Memo instant back up reported things were not well in my computer land. Rather than backing up my computer like it does once a day, it reported it couldn't complete the back up because my computer was expanding. Upon checking Memeo instant backup, I found that thousands of files were being created every second in my computer. I guess I'm a little concerned as to why this is happening, and what I should do to stop it, reverse it, and prevent it. Is my computer actively under siege? Is my external hard drive compromised?
Sigh, I'm getting really upset, any help would be appreciated.

This sounds super-sketchy. Grab the installers for these, drop into safe mode, run 'em, and report back.

All of those things report no problems with my computer. I also got a Geek Squad guy to look at it, and apparently the thousands of files are all Kaspersky virus definitions. Somewhat less wary, but, ok I guess, for now. I backed up some important stuff just to be safe.
