[The Daily Show, The Colbert Report & Last Week Tonight]: Bring me my smellin' turds!
I don't think these shows need any real introduction, given what they are and especially this community. Because of that, I'm not gonna go through all that nonsense of introducing the correspondents or hosts. What I AM gonna do, though, is point out that the shows are back on Hulu! If you're that excited to hear the news for the first time, the above logos are links to the relevant Hulu pages. No longer do you have to endure the horrible Comedy Central web player.
We kinda had a problem in the last thread that I wanna take the chance to clarify now; anything discussed on the shows the night of their airing and up to the next episode is up for discussion here, no problem. When the next episode airs, people who still want to talk about those things should take those topics to their own thread (and often times threads exist for those topics already). Obviously Thursdays have an advantage. Aside from that, any gimmicks, past or present, run on the shows, or correspondents new and old, are free to be discussed here.
EXCLUSIVE: Jon Stewart will take a 12-week hiatus from hosting Comedy Central‘s The Daily Show to make his feature directing debut this summer. Stewart has written the script, and will direct Rosewater, an adaptation of the book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival. Published in 2011 by Random House, the book is Maziar Bahari’s harrowing ordeal of leaving London in June 2009 to cover Iran’s presidential elections. With a pregnant fiance left behind, the BBC journalist expected to be away for a week. Instead, he spent the next 118 days in Iran’s most notorious prison being brutally interrogated by a man he knew only by one thing: he smelled of Rosewater. Bahari wrote the book with Aimee Molloy. Scott Rudin will produce with Stewart and Gigi Pritzker. Pritzker’s OddLot Entertainment is financing the film.

I pretty much stopped updating the last thread when I had to stop watching the show (lost income to support paying for TV) and my net sucks for streaming TV shows. Thanks for taking this up Forar and apologies to everyone for losing my diligence.
Wow, so I'm watching last night's (Thursday's) Daily Show because I missed it watching Romney's speech. I saw the most honest advertisement ever. It's for Maker's Mark and it's James Carville and his wife (Mary Matalin, a Republican) talking about how it's not about the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, it's for the Cocktail Party.
Which basically sums up elite Washington. I don't think that was the intention, but there it is.

No worries man. Sorry to hear you don't have easy access, but if you can fight through it, this past week has been *incredible* and I won't even see tonight's episodes until tomorrow (when they go up on CTV and the Comedy Network's sites).
That Samantha Bee segment was everything people had said it was, and Jon & John yelling at each other was pretty glorious, and biting. It's like they and The Onion are beginning to settle on the same wavelength, and dark as it may be, it's some incredible shit.

That was my exact thought when I saw it. The media people do it on tv for $$$$ and the politicians do it to keep us divided and them elected. Behind close doors it's all buddy buddy IMO
It never ceases to blow my mind, the illusion of grandeur people have about their state and how it's the "best place on earth." At least in Michigan, right or left, we know we live in a piece of shit.
The spot with the state deficits/run everything like a business had me in tears. Especially the lady from west virginia, where he starts hounding her about it and shes like "Why dont we talk about these awesome hats?"
Thursday and Friday night TDS were some of the best I have seen in recent memory. Did everyone catch the extended interview with Michael Steele? Worth the trip to the website.

The resigned disgust in his voice is worth it. I still don't understand the Michael Steele who was the RNC chair as opposed to the post-RNC chair Michael Steele.

One is a bitter ex-employee, the other isn't. I don't think his deeply conservative views have changed, he just has a new disgust for the party because they've shunned him. They basically just discussed brief logistics and strategy, but didn't touch on issues at all.

Bit I loved last night was them asking the black musician if he was a republican
*looks tiredly around* "Look, it's just a gig, man"
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
When Colbert was talking about "one giant leap for mankind," I was kind of expecting Mick Foley to do a cameo.
Mick Foley only emerges from the mists when children who stand up for righteous causes get bullied because of it. Then he vanishes back into the mists after some heads are cracked.

One thing I didn't notice until Friday on the Colbert opening: The tauntaun says Obama over and over as its "whinny." Such a nerdtastic opening.

Well, it was fading fast, but there goes the last of my appreciation for Chuck Norris.
National Review writer Reihan Salam. "sure he's lying, but we should discuss those lies instead of calling them out" was the dumbest thing.
Yeah, that was pretty stupid.
Here's a question, which one of these statements is worthy of discussion?
A. Tomorrow, the dead will rise and we will be ushered into 1000 years of darkness. (Unironically, this is something that GOP representatives believe.)
B. Nuclear armed North Korea threatens our allies in South Korea and Japan and an increase in hostilities could destabilize the region.
Only one of those has basis in fact and that man should feel ashamed of wanting to discuss nonsense. Before you discuss, get the facts. Otherwise, you are leading a college of fools.

Colbert was hilarious as usual. I loved that little smirk he has when his guest gives his conservative personal a smack down.
Jon, however, has been on my nerves this week. Aside from his false equivalency theatre, he got dangerously close to insulting Tammy Duckworth tonight. That, my friends, would have sent me into a nation destroying rage.
Mild Confusion on

I wouldn't say it's false equivalence theater yet. Last week, for example, addressing Mitt Romney directly, he said: "Bull. Fucking. Shit." This week he's more been needling the Dems for being the party of inclusion and actually proving it by having minorities in the audience, and then showcasing the occasional elitist douchebag you get in echo chambers like, oh, party conventions. About the worst thing I'd say he's done tonight is poke at the Dems for talking up their candidate so highly without pointing out that it's only relative because the RNC wasn't about Romney at all.
I actually loved his reactions to the interview. I have the feeling she was almost trolling him, by talking about men the same way Republican politicians tend to speak about women in politics. "Of course men's voices are important..."

That's giving a member of Congress way more credit than they deserve. But I really would like to think there are one or two that would be capable of consciously doing such a thing.
Gillibrand was totally trolling him. And God bless her.

Fair enough, I'll concede that the game he played tonight was not as equal as last weeks.
But he still got very close to insulting Tammy Duckworth, which is what set me off to the rest of his show.
Do not make a joke at her expense Jon, that is beneath you and you know it.
