Top 25 Gamecube/Wii Games

KwornKworn Registered User regular
edited March 2007 in Games and Technology
Just recently saw this on IGN.

They have posted to number 15 I think. I recently bought a Wii and it's awesome, so I am now catching up on games I missed for the gamecube.

I recently purchased RE4 for it which cost me like £25 on ebay. It is really worth that money to me. Today I bought battalion wars which is fucking rare and just cost me £30 on ebay.

Any other games I might need in my collection?

Also I only got battalion wars for my Wii because it was number 21 in the top 25 list.

Is it actually any good? Is it like advance wars for the DS, that game rocked.

No, not really. It's basically a real-time strategy game with references borrowed from Advance Wars. It's made by Kuju, a British developer, rather than Intelligent Systems. There's a sequel planned for the Wii, so I guess it's pretty solid. £30 is a bit much though, there are rarer and better games for the GC.

I expect Ikaruga, Tales of Symphonia, Pikmin 2, Animal Crossing, F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime, Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Super Smash Bros. Melee to be in the top 15 and I heartily recommend all of them. It's a shame Jungle Beat and Paper Mario 2 didn't make it. Oh well, IGN lol.

    Here's the article in question

I know they haven't done 1 through 15, but off the top of my head, they're missing (and some of these are multiplatform) Beyond Good & Evil, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Gladius, Ikaruga, LoZ: Four Swords Adventures, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Part 4, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Super Mario Sunshine, and Tales of Symphonia.

Also, I wouldn't have put Baten Kaitos: The Longest Game Name Ever or MGS: Twin Snakes on the list, but that's just me.

Jungle Beat is there, it's #24.

Separate entries for Pikmin 1/2 and Metroid Prime 1/2 almost feels like padding the list.

I wonder if they'll put the Zelda: OoT/Master Quest disc on the list. Skies of Arcadia and Resident Evil are also excellent remakes, and MGS Twin Snakes is already on there.

Also Fire Emblem and Wave Race.

It's easier when you consider multiplatform titles.

I've got 28 GameCube games, and I could easily lose 3 of them and make a top 25 list.

I was trying SO HARD not to come in here and shit on this, but when I first read the thread title, I didn't see the word Gamecube, so I was like "Top 25 Wii games? Are there even 25 Wii games in total? This must be counting non-Wii games that the Wii emulates, like Castlevania 4 or something."

So yeah, let's see how many of these are ports or emulations.

See, that's kind of silly though. Top 25 is kind of ridiculous when you only have 28 entrants. You really might as well make a Bottom 3 list. Top 25 makes sense when you have several hundred. Like "Top 25 NES games" would make sense. I have four N64 games. A "Top 3" out of that library seems kind of retarded, doesn't it?

I said that I, personally, have 28 GCN games. I know there are more than that out there and that many of them were worth buying. I was trying, albeit poorly, the counter the "I can't even think of 25 GameCube games" comment.

On GameRankings, I see almost 600 GameCube games. A top 25 out of 600 doesn't strike me as unnecessary, especially with so many people picking up a Wii after skipping the Cube.

I'm pretty sure I own 25 pretty awesome exclusives for the Gamecube.

Actually, it becomes a bit more difficult if you leave out games like Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe, since they were ported to PS2 way after their release.

So I was thinking I should get -

    - Paper mario the thousand year Door (Or should I wait for the Wii Version)
    - Twin Snakes (is it that much better with prettier graphs and first person mode)
    - Eternal Darkness (Dont like the idea od the bath scene)
    - Mario Party 4 (Should I wait for the Wii version)
    - Skies of Arcadia
    - Mario Kart DD

Only ones I can think of at the MO

Oh and I cant stand Metroid

I own around 30 Gamecube games, most of them exclusives, and I'm missing a ton of games I want like, Pikmin 1/2, Naruto CoN2, Paper Mario 2, Kirby Air Ride, Super Monkey Ball 2, DK Jungle Beat, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Tales of Symphonia, Star Fox Assault...

Everybody with even a passing interest in Mario and RPGs should get Thousand-Year Door.

I didn't really like Twin Snakes, but I think that's more because Metal Gear Solid isn't my thing. It looked pretty, and it handled well, but the story absolutely killed it for me.

If you want a non-waggle Mario Party, 4 is probably the best you can get for the GameCube. I've got 5, and it's good, too, but I like 4's minigames more.

Skies of Arcadia Legends is a great RPG to pick up, but only if you don't have the Dreamcast version already.

Double Dash!! is great fun. Even better if you've got another Cube and two LAN adapters for 8-player, 4-kart races.

Another one that should be on this Top 25 list, but probably won't be, is Pac-Man Vs. It requires a GBA and a link cable, but it's easy to pick up, everbody likes Pac-Man, and it makes for a great party game.

Paper Mario on the GC is a completely different game from Super Paper Mario on the Wii. The Eternal Darkness "bath scene" is like 2 seconds long and not that bad.

TTYD is also one of the best RPGs ever made (though I personally think Paper Mario on the '64 just edges it. Virtual Console plz nintendo!!).

The way I see it, the Remake's position on a list like this should be determined by taking the new remake's amount of awesome, minus the original game's amount of awesome.

Therefore, Twin Snakes totally deserves to be on this list because of missile jumping, door flipping and headbutting.

Well then stop contibuting to it by posting in here dude

My Top 25 Gamecube games I HAVE PLAYED - Rated by Fun-ness.

Really quickly off the top of my head.

    25 Tales of Symphonia
    23-24 Lego Star Wars I & II
    22 Batallion Wars
    21 Paper Mario
20 Killer 7 (only just started - likely to rise)
    19 Beyond Good an Evil
18 Super Smash Bros Melee (only played for an hour - dont hurt me)
    17 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
    15-16 Pikmin I & II
    14 Chibi-Robo
    12-13 Donkey Konga I & II
    11 Fire Emblem
    10 PoP: The Two Thrones
    9 Monkey Ball 1
    8 LoZ: Collectors Edition
    7 LoZ: 4 sword adventures
    6 Donkey konga: Jungle Beat
    5 Resident Evil 4
    4 Mario Kart Double Dash
    3 PoP: Sands of Time
2 LoZ: Twilight Princess (yes, I have both, I'm that sad).
    1 LoZ: The Wind Waker

three things that will get you crucified:

    1) An hour of SSB? come on!
    2) Resident Evil 4 should be higher (if not no.1 in the eyes of many)
    3)WW higher than TP ?!?(?!?)

but then, arguing over these crazy lists is pointless...

    ...or is it?!
    it is

    1) Time, it is a precious thing. I make no excuses.
    2) Just because it's Number 5 doesn't mean I don't think it's one of the greatest games ever made.
    3) Please. WW has a purer vision, and an artisitic beauty lacking it TP. That and the Wii controls makes the GC version somewhat obsolete. But lets not start that discussion. It's like arguing whether doggy or a blow job is better.

All in all a pretty stupid thing to do.

EDIT: Ha you edited it to say that too - awesome

You have done doggy and blow job? get out of here

Did you give or recieve? That makes a difference to the arguement :)

I like Wind Waker more than Twilight Princess. Just barely.

Also, one of my favourite games ever is Pikmin 2. Ever.

Also, everyone should at least try Chibi Robo, and you must play it longer than an hour. That's about when it starts to be awesome. Can't wait for Park Patrol.

I also want to add that anyone who tries Thousand Year Door needs to stick with it past the early somewhat long-winded tutorial. It can test the patience of some people, though I loved it.
