How-To Resize Photos?

BBC n00b here, I freely own that and am nicely humble :)

I'm trying to resize a couple of images to make them smaller in a thread. This is pretty new territory for this old dinosaur, so I've spent about an hour and a half on it so far today with no success. Is there a specific list widths that are supported? Or is resizing allowed in Vanilla?

Original images are hosted on imgr.
Here's the code I'm using (open brackets removed to expose the syntax), but there's no difference in the sizes.

Vanilla will auto resize. If you want them any smaller, use an image editor. Here's auto resizing at work:

Okay - so it did resize to what you're showing above. And to make sure I understand correctly: Vanilla doesn't resize to custom sizes, I need to resize in an external program and link to the smaller picture, yes?

    Thanks!
