and she was all "my mom only wants me to put in $25 but I believe in homestuck and I want to help andrew!"
and i just imagined some kid relative coming up to me and proudly telling me he/she had paid $10,000 for a character he drew to be in one panel of an online comic
and I felt physically ill. I'm so glad they backed down.

Thus starts a cycle that decimates the fandom with each passing year. Cops routinely find fans turning tricks or stealing TVs in order to fund their habit. "Troll Dens" are formed as groups pool their resources to keep their headcanon alive in actual canon. Fancartels keep a tight grip on the fantroll market through fear and violence. Worrying parents are devastated to find fanart in their child's sock drawer. Interventions are created by concerned friends and family to put an end to the deadly cycle.
This culminates years later with a TV show about a chem teacher that tries to make money for his family by manufacturing grey body paint.

I thought John was Asian, because he's got that spiky hair. Not anime hair. Just, that sort of spiky hairstyle that is so popular with many Asian men. he reminded me of some of the korean guys at school with his hair. And so Jade became Asian by proxy.

You can think they are whatever race you want, that isn't the issue.
In my personal "headcanon" (ugh) John was ambiguously asian, Jade was dark skinned, Jane reminds me of a flapper, dark haired, white skinned. Dave and Dirk are white as white can be. That's just my interpretation.
I'm not bothered by the stickers or the tarot cards or any other art that contradicts my personal made-up theory about the race of some non-existent kids.
