So long story short I want to be able to play my xbox on my monitor (HP 2210m), with sound, while still being able to hear sound from my computer (skype and whatnot). Is this possible?
From there, you'll want a 2 M RCA -> M 3.5mm converter. I won't show any specific ones because you'll need to figure out what sort of cable lengths you need. You can use F/F converters if you need to extend the cable run somewhere. Connect the M 3.5mm cable to the line in channel of your PC (make sure you have one of these before buying anything). Set up the input levels and enable it to output to your headset... I can't really provide more detailed instructions here because it'll depend on your OS version and whether or not there's a third party sound setup tool installed.
Most PC's have an audio in next to the audio out and a the mixer function that hides behind the speaker icon should let you pass through the audio in to the audio out and mix it with the PC's. In other words feed the audio from the Xbox to the audio in on the PC, let the PC mix it's own sound with the signal from the Xbox and put it all to your headset.
Now the plan above does need a couple of things for it to be that easy. Firstly you need to get analog audio from the Xbox (unless you PC has digital audio which is not the common) and secondly you need your PC to have two audio inputs else you'll use the microphone function.

Connect this to your Xbox. You can also modify the composite cables that came with the console by prying the casing off the base of the cables to be able to use it with HDMI if you're really interested in saving $2.33.
