My notification bar acts weird

Basically my notifications bar (you know, upper right corner with Notifications, Inbox, bookmarks, account options) keeps showing that I have an unread message in my inbox.
Which I do (or might), because I recieved the message in my gmail box (the email I have attached to the account).
However, that message was spam and I guess a moderator removed it or something.
Anyway, the problem is that the notifier shows that I have a message, but the inbox is empty because some mod or automated feature removed the message or made it unreadable, so I can't read the message and therefor it shows as being unread. And I have yet to find a button to reset it and show all messages as read.
