Getting out of a NJ parking ticket

Jersey City is something else. This morning I parked at a meter (one payable by quarters) to grab a coffee. When I return there is a meter lady in one of those vehciles pulling up to my car to give me a ticket. For what?!

Apparently street sweeping. But there are no visible signs because they have been ripped down. How am I supposed to know? I paid my 25 cents.

I tried to point this out to her but she drove away.

My ticket is missing some information. It doesn't have the year of my car, which is not a big deal.

But it is also missing the meter number.

So is there any chance of pleading not guilty and getting out of it? It's $42, which is not huge money, but we are not doing so good right now and that is an entire week's worth of gas.

Take some pictures of the lack of signs.

this. bring them to court, and normally they'll toss it.

I don't know what the court system is like in NJ but if you lose, there's a chance that in addition to the $42 there may also be a court fee tacked on as well, make sure you've got the cash for that before you fight that. Not saying you couldn't win this, just playing Devil's Advocate.

It may be easier for you to just pay the $42 this time.

are YOU on the beer list?

As a Jersey City resident, the street signs for cleaning work for entire blocks, often for a long stretch of road, so even if the closest sign is missing, a sign further down will have the times.

Still, take a picture of the lack of signs and if you want to contest the charge, go to court. Which meter number are you talking about, though? You weren't ticketed for the meter, but for parking in a No Parking During X Hours zone.
