Yesterday I got an old fountain pen of my mom's that my dad found while he was cleaning out the house, along with a couple of bottles of ink. I want to learn how to use it but I don't really know much about them; a quick Google search said that there are a couple different ways to refill them depending on the pen but I don't have a model number or anything to look for information on this specific pen. It looks like I'm going to need some sort of special plunger/syringe thing to refill it, as it doesn't seem to have removable cartridges and my mom used ink bottles with it; is that something I can find in an office supply store or am I going to have to order it somewhere special online? And this is probably a silly question but does ink go bad at any point? The bottles aren't super old but I would probably put them at like 20-30 years old.
Here's a couple pictures of the pen both put together and taken apart, at least all of the bits that I can find to take apart. Sorry if they're blurry, I figure they're good enough to show what needs to be shown but let me know if I need to take new ones. Also if this is something that would be better posted in the Artist's Corner or something tell me (or I guess a mod can move it there).
You sure that isn't a pen that uses cartridges like so? Cause it looks like that to me. Also that old ink is probably done for, but it doesn't hurt to try it out.
Nope, I'm not sure. Inside of the longer part that I unscrewed the nib from it looks like there's some sort of plastic tube like a regular pen has but I can't find any way to get it out. I guess I could try to pull it out with tweezers but I don't want to risk breaking it. But it is entirely possible that the bottles of ink were for other pens, because I know that she had other fountain pens, and that this one uses refillable ink cartridges. I should probably just try to find someone in the area that knows about these things and take it in for them to look at.
Edit: Nevermind, apparently I wasn't applying enough force before or I finally managed to pull it loose and it does in fact look like it uses refillable ink cartridges. So I guess that solves that, thanks this can be locked now.
