I have recently purchased a XBOX 360, and have been having issues getting my 360 and laptop to see each other to allow media sharing. The stats are as follows:

Laptop :
Toshiba Satellite a75-s229
-Intel P4 3.4ghz
-1.5G Ram
-80G Hd
-Antheros wireless G <-active connection
-etc.
-Software(Winxp sp2, WMP 11, ZoneAlarm, AVG anti virus)

Router: Linksys WRT54G

And a relativly new (1 month old) Xbox 360 connected via ethernet.

I've tried sharing through WMP's Library>Media Sharing... menu and I cannot see the 360. Likewise my 360 cannot see the laptop either. I suspect the router because I have been having difficulties online with Half Life 2 and various mods.(can't host a game) If the router is suspect to you all as well please suggest a good replacement.

Make sure the Windows Firewall is either disabled (cough, cough) or you've got a hole poked for the 360.

ZoneAlarm is a firewall too, right? You've got it set to allow the 360 to see your PC?

I've got the same router, so I doubt it's the issue.

I have zonealarm set to allow WMP11 out, but unsure how to open ports on it... regardless I ran the laptop nekid (no software firewall) and still couldn't get WMP11 to see the 360:( I also remember hearing someplace that the WRT54G had many revisions, mayhaps I got stuck with a bad one? it is rather old, purchased soon after 802.11G was standardized.

revolve: It seems that the link only allows Zune for WinXP sp2

Got it, apparently if I set the IP of the 360 to trusted in Zone Alarm it works perfectly!

still doesn't explain why it didn't work when no sw firewall was on... oh well...

Another question, does anyone know of a site for configing a router to work with static and dynamic ip's? static for my home Pc's and devices, and dynamic for visitors? or should i just go all static?

I wouldn't know about such a site as I've never had use for it, but couldn't you configure your router to assign a given IP to your home PC & devices based on their MAC address? That's what I have done, and it works very well (I have a WRT54GL with the DD-WRT firmware) :)
