Hawkguy #3 was the best issue yet! High speed car chase, lots of trick arrows, tracksuit draculas! and this!
Ultimate Comics Iron Man #1 was a pretty all right "first" issue, lots of set-up with some small action pieces. Edmondson seems to have a good voice for Tony, so looking forward to what the rest is about. (too bad more than likely he's already foreshadowed that Tony's "high-school" sweet heart is probably the mandarin), Really love the panel usage for Tony armoring up on this page.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #16 cool issue that was super full of action (especially for a Bendis book), nice to see it link up and show how Miles got to the Triskellion before Cap's speech. Laraz did a really good job of filling in for Marquez/Pichelli (Ponsor's colors made the transition almost seamless). Not sure how Hydra's appearance jives with Humphries' plans, but minor issue I suppose. I love how inexperienced Miles is and how he's still full of wonder at the superhero thing. Love him asking the ultimates for a cell phone, and Iron Man gives him a glove to use as a phone.
"Ride or Die?" asked Goku
"Ride or Die" confirmed Dominic Toretto, as they took off to find the Dragon Balls in hopes of reviving their friend Sonic
Look, it's just my homage to RID #10. (I fixed them now)

It only just occured to me that the world was burning via the Phoenix Force in AvX the same time that Everything Burns was happening in Thor/Journey Into Mystery
Well played, Marvel.

Hawkeye was incredible. Fraction and Aja are absolutely killing it on that book.
so besides Hawkeye my other MotW came from the FF story in Marvel NOW! Point One, also written by Fraction. I'm putting 4 pages in here, but the comic is double sized and also one of the pages was in a free previews comic so it isn't a big deal.
and then after 3 pages of fighting Doom's nanodroid security and hitching a ride inside Johnny Storm's mouth:
My MOTW, besides Hawkeye obviously because I think we all agree was pretty damn good
Justice League 13. That whole kiss scene that was supposed to be a huge deal... really fell flat in issue 12. In fact, I was angered by it. But issue 13 handles the aftermath.... surprisingly tastefully, in a way that actually made me look forward to seeing more Clark/Diana.

Speaking of Young Avengers, I didn't notice until today the symmetry of having Loki bringing them together via trickery, evil grownup Loki having done the same in a more antagonistic manner for the original Avengers.
it would be just a weird coincidence if Gillen hadn't expressed his love for the song a bunch before
He also specifically mentioned it in a Q&A regarding a playlist for the book.
Marvel.com: And last but not least, you mentioned on Tumblr that you were thinking about doing a playlist for the book and started off the ideas with “The Nights of Wine and Roses” by Japandroids. Do you want to share a little bit with the readers on why that song was the first to come to mind or do you want to save that for the playlist ahead?
Kieron Gillen: [Laughs] Yes, the playlist will eventually be made public. I'm thinking about doing a series of posts revealing which song is informing my take on the characters, which will also be a good way to introduce my thinking on the team to the very-active Young Avengers Tumblr folk.
It wasn't the first to come to mind; the first thing in the playlist was actually Emeli Sandes' “Heaven” which connects incredibly strongly to one character. In fact, it was just the one that popped up on the playlist at that second, and I had the sudden urge to post it. It's an incredible record, and certainly describes a little of the raucous pugnaciousness of the team. It's a song that actively defies everything in existence that stops them from living in a manner they find agreeable. A key line in my thinking about YOUNG AVENGERS is "The original series is about being 16. This series is about being 18." “The Nights of Wine and Roses” sounds a hell of a lot like how life felt for me at 18.
The whole playlist is a mixture of things which all evoke a certain sense of youth. Some of it is hyper-modern. Some of it is prehistorically old. Some of it is heartbreaking and some of it makes my heart beat faster and faster until it explodes. YOUNG AVENGERS, y'know?
A quick bunch of random selections from the list: “212” by Azealia Banks, “Be My Baby” by the Ronettes, “I Love It” by Icona Pop, “I Would Die 4 U” by Prince, “I Wish I Was Someone Better” by Blood Red Shoes, “The Night” by School of Seven Bells, “Young Hearts Run Free” by Candi Staton, “I Feel It All” by Feist, the “Breakaway” cover by the Detroit Cover, “Born On The Floor” by the Make-Up, “Born To Run” by Bruce and “Absolute Beginners” by Bowie. It's currently standing at 51 tracks.
Pretty much all of the books I picked up this week were great. Most of them hit it out of the park. Really great week for comics.
The aforementioned Hawkguy, USM, both AvX Consequences and UXM were super great.
Harbinger deserves a big mention, too. I don't have any scans and probably couldn't pare it down to one moment anyway. The whole book was really intense and everyone should be reading this.
Can't help but shake my head at the USM scans. A Battalion of hulkbusters? Really? Cap's under attack and going to get a couple hundred to a thousand hulkbusters up top "and I mean now". I know Battalion's a cool word and all... but yeah.

According to wikipedia the literal meaning of Batallion is 300 to 1200 which does sound a bit silly but according to the same article A batallion is the smallest military unit capable of independent operation.
It seems reasonable to assume that with SHIELD being the organization it is and their forces being made up of small superhuman forces the name has mutated a bit. A SHIELD Battalion is smaller but an independent force.

also I don't know how US Military unit sizes work, but I assume/guess that a Tank battalion (which hulkbusters would be more analogous to compared to infantry) would probably be less than 300-1200 tanks.
well once you get down to the smaller levels you start getting into troop and squadrons of tanks. Armoured troops have their own breakdown. A troop of tanks can be anywhere from 8-10 vehicles, sort of the armoured equivalent of a section. From there I believe you next get a squadron which would be three troops so 24-30 vehicles on average, which could then extend to a regiment(3 squadrons), division (3 regiments)and battalion levels (3 divisions) if I'm remembering correctly. Since Armoured, Artillery, and Infantry all like to have their own organizational words for this stuff it gets annoying to remember them all if you're not working at the strategic level where you actually care about the word battalion.
When wikipedia says a battalion is the smallest unit that can operate independently they mean they can create, task, support and complete entire operations on their own without any logistical or combative support. Which you can when you have 800 or so guys kicking around. By contrast you're not going to have a platoon of guys out in the bush making their own missions and holding ground all on their own. They don't have the manpower to do it all.
Cap should have said at most Squadron of Hulkbusters. Especially since you don't mobilize a battalion of anything "and I mean now". It's just the wrong word since it's dealing with the sort of manning you use to secure and hold an entire city, not send to the roof.
EDIT: SHEILD could be argued as functioning as a battalion.

hawkeye totally killed the fuck out of those guys
Wolverine can't kill him because he's not fighting back, Cyclops says it's to be a martyr, but he's lying.
Uncanny X-Men #20, kind of a rushed ending in how Gillen ties all his stories up in a bow, but a reveal to spearhead Cyclops in the future:

I can buy that.
But apparently Hawkeye is soooo good!
I don't want to like Hawkeye, I want to not add another title to my list!
Because the Hawkeye comic is so awesome he probably could do that.
(Also, he'd probably sleep with your wife/girlfriend/mom while he was at it. Because, Hawkeye.)
Maybe I'll stop by the LCS next paycheck.
Probably all of them at once.
