Et tu, router?

So we're having some trouble with a router. Essentially, it will work fine for all of five minutes, then refuse any new connections. Occasionally, it won't respond to pings. Quite often, it will forget the Internet exists. So, we returned it, got a new one. Same thing. It's a Linksys Wireless G router. Trouble is, the previous router, also a Linksys, had similar problems toward the end of its life.

We suspected an ARP attack over wireless but that doesn't make much sense. Also, it's not just faulty wireless but the wired connections as well. A firmware update failed to solve the problem. Any thoughts on this?

What is the revision number? Can you flash a 3rd party Firmware on it like Hyper-wrt?

Is anyone else connecting to it? Did you shut off dhcp and assign ip's by mac address and lock out al others ?

it is just wireless, or BOTH wired and wireless? are you in B+G mode or one or the other ? did you switch wireless channels yet?

    Yeah, it's wired and wireless.

We did disable DHCP but have yet to try 3rd party firmware. I think that might be a good next step.

    what model is the router?
I'm currently running another type of router (a Buffalo one) with the dd-wrt firmware and am very happy with it. Turned a cheap crap router into a really sweet one. Just gotta check in the wiki if your router is supported
