Split Screen Co-Op on PS3

A friend and I have setup a bi-weekly hangout night where we get together and play video games. Two weeks ago we tried Resident Evil 6. My friend didn't much care for it, not because of the story or the gameplay, but mostly because he's not much of a 3rd person shooter fan.

So we're looking for game recommendations. Something we can play every-other-week for 3 or so hours. Something on the same TV. I've got a 40" TV so we'll have a decent viewing space. The issue is just finding a game that we can both agree on.

While they're not PS3 exclusives, have you tried Castle Crashers and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light? Lara croft even changes up the levels in Co-Op mode so there are puzzles and obstacles that you need to work together to solve.

There's Scott Pilgrim too, but it can be a little grindy.

Edit: Here's a list of Couch Co-op PS3 games that support at least two players.

I and a friend had a lot of fun doing Borderlands 1 in couch co-op. There's a lot of meat in there for two people to chew through. The Spec Ops missions in MW2/3 are also quite fun. A different friend and I have also played a lot of bot matches in Black Ops.

I didn't care for the Army of Two games. The controls were hard to get used to after a lot of COD.

i never tried this split screen, but the framerate already got pretty terrible with only one person running around so... i dunno. fun game though.

Maybe in the PS3 version? I played on the 360 and it was fine.

Played Sacred 2 based on a recommendation in another co-op thread and found it boring and repetitive. My brother liked it though.

I'm always on the lookout for co-op games, but it's hard to recommend without knowing what your buddy likes.

I mean, with my girlfriend I've recently played Skylanders, Tokyo Jungle and Tales games co-op. With my youngest brother it's been mostly third person shooters (Gears of War, Army of Two) and with my other brother we recently played Dead Space: Extraction and Mortal Kombat (co-op tower).

I've heard Portal 2 and Borderlands are fun too, but I hate playing anything in first person.

Sacred 2 is a Diablo clone. If you like those, you'll probably like it. For example, I think a good 50% of the other games you mention are boring and repeptive.

Ah, that explains it. I guess I got burnt out on that formula with PSO.

I second Lara Croft - so much fun. Additionally - Double Dragon. It has a designated High Five button.

    Oh yeah, that'd do it.

How is Tales of Graces in co-op? I've actually played the entire game already, but my friend has not, and I found the story and humor to be entertaining enough that I would not mind another playthrough.

We tried it co-op and gave up. Combat is too button mashy to keep track of everything but then both of us REALLY suck at fighting games. That and it's only co-op in the fights which is kinda weird.

It is pretty button mashy, but it works well enough once you've gotten used to the Tales fighting scheme. Like Pink said though, when you're outside of the fights player 1 pretty much does everything like any other jRPG. Boss fights are obviously much more entertaining than random encounter fights.

My girlfriend and I enjoy it because we both like RPG games and usually take turns when we play through something together. Tales games just give us the choice of playing together. It's not something I would recommend playign co-op with someone who doesn't really like that sort of game though.
