Presidential Elections 2112

edited October 2012 in Debate and/or Discourse
In a shocking October surprise, Cyber-Primate Nine has broken years of silence to endorse Haemocrat Flash Jetstar for the Earth presidency. Most AInalysts inside the Asteroid Beltway think this is sure to sway the votes of a key percentage of vertebrate species, although his Moonist opponent, Lord Proximo, retains the loyalty of the influential helium-mining industry and the face on Mars.

Meanwhile, third-party "Republican" candidate Coulter Bachmann III continues to insist that she's "in it to win it" and has a map to electoral victory so long as the votes of talking fish, sentient computers, Space Mexicans and other "abominations before the Lord" are not counted.

In lighter news, we turn back to our ongoing series of historical documents from the United States Presidential election of one century ago this month. The following is an unexpurgated transcript of discussion at the legendary "Penny Arcade Forums," presented exactly as it occurred.

    bestest OP.

well, my washingtonian friends have all voted and for Obama. Most of my other friends are still waiting, but are all for Obama. And the few random conservatives that I have on facebook are all bitching about everything, swearing that they're not voting 'because it's pointless', or voting for gary johnson.

i'm not feeling generous enough to talk them completely out of that one.

Well, I could vote today. But what if I change my mind afterwards?

Just vote in one of those Bain-owned voting machines and it will change your mind for you.

Mmmm, towards the end of last thread there was some "my state, your state" discussion going on, so I'd like to re-post some sage words on that topic:
    ElJeffe wrote: »
We've got fifty states and a few dependencies and every single one of them has something awesome to offer the world. Even Alabama ; )

Conversely, every single one of them is goddamn terrible in its own way. I am in California. It is a great place. It is also fucking idiotic.

You're from Texas, right? Texas is terrible. Arizona is an abortion. And Kansas? Cthulhu tells his kids stories about Kansas to scare them into behaving.

We all live in godawful cesspits of stupid rife with their own special natural disasters and their own propensities for making your brain seep out your ears. Every last one of us. Doesn't mean we aren't all decent blokes, and I don't think anyone here means to imply otherwise when they point out that Alabama should be rightly firebombed into the stone age. Because really, it should.

edit: I just occurred to me that Alabama is already in the stone age, and should thus be firebombed to whatever came before. A soft and molten crust, I guess.

There are several of these, but this one was the best.

And now, because I feel like it, a matching of each major candidate to the Final Fantasy music that best suits them.

    Mitt Romney:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIjtbG0Z_fc

The theme music for the character Gogo. Gogo is a Mimic, capable of assuming any ability that would be beneficial to himself, or taking what those around him have just utilized and using it himself. It's rare to see the same character twice when you deal with Gogo.

    Paul Ryan:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bITrS-GQjAw

The Shinra Corporation theme. Confident in their own area of expertise, namely corporate governance, but when exposed to concerns outside that they become ineffective and almost laughable.

    Barack Obama:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6DwKL87XVA

The Kingdom of Figaro. It concerns a leader who has had to play a delicate balancing game as the political situation has grown more dire and he is eventually forced into open opposition to those who would force everyone under their own rule regardless of what they want. Also cares deeply for his family.

    Joe Biden:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CMTXyExkeI

"Clash on the Big Bridge". Because it's awesome, and he's awesome.

    Donald Trump:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZxB4eO8X9s

    Kefka's theme. Because he's a fucking clown.
But give him access to real power and we're all probably screwed. D:

A new Associated Press-GfK poll finds Mitt Romney has erased President Obama's 16-point advantage among women, while the president, in turn, has largely eliminated Romney's edge among men.

Those churning gender dynamics leave the presidential race still a virtual dead heat, with Romney favored by 47% of likely voters and Obama by 45%, a result within the poll's margin of sampling error.

    Because insanity.

    From Twitter:
Someone very wrong: AP poll has no gender gap & a tie w/ women. #ABCWP poll has gender gap at all-time high (O +15 w/ women, -17 w/ men).
Obama's net favorability in Virginia is up 7 pts and Mitt Romney's is down 7 pts from our last poll

PPP has Obama +5 in Virginia.

    Mittmentum.

Also, Colin Powell endorses Obama for this election as well. Thanks for that.

Also, it's funny to see news channels going on about the 60% Obama to 30% Romney lead in early voting in Ohio, I think, but that they were really still even.

While Donald Trump had no problem demanding that Barack Obama reveal details about his passport and time at college on Wednesday, the billionaire business mogul proved rather less forthcoming when it came to a request for information about himself.

Trump announced on Wednesday that he would donate $5m to a charity of Obama's choosing, if the president handed over his "college records and applications, and passport application and records".

But when the Guardian contacted Trump's office to ask for Trump's college and passport records, it was accused of "trying to be funny" and the request was deemed to be "stupid".

"You know, I voted for him in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012, and I'll be voting for he and Vice President Joe Biden next month," he said on CBS' "This Morning."
Asked whether it was an endorsement, he said, "Yes."

Powell praised the president's handling of the economy and ending of the Iraq War.

"I think we ought to keep on the track we are on," he said.

Powell said he had the "utmost respect" for Mitt Romney but criticized his tax plan.

He said Romney's foreign policy was a "moving target."

Not sure on how to explain any futher. Trump is effectively holding $5m in charity donations hostage unless Obama plays his Birther game with him. I find this an awful ploy, and am greatful the media haven't bought into it.
