When I click on a vertex, edge or any object with the move tool those movement arrow things (the ones that allow you to move the object only in one direction, sorry for my poor description) are disabled. As far as I know I haven't changed anything, so how do I fix this?

That thing's actual, and very technical, name is the "Transform Gizmo"

Please clarify "disabled" As in greyed out (as they appear when you are in pure Selection mode), as in they do not appear (Views->Show Transform Gizmo), or other?

Well they appear but they are red and grey and can't be used.

I used to do that from time to time by accident as well, but I can't remember what the hell it was; or 9 just doesn't do it, sorry. But now you know what its called, maybe try some google groups.

Wow, apparently all I did was accidentally press x instead of alt + x when I was trying to make something transparent. So yeah, this thread can be locked and whatnot.
