Okay, if I drop my Dragon to a 335, then with pilot skills I run at 97/kph, can mount a gauss, two Mpulse and an srm 4 with 1 ton. I'd mount an srm6 but with Endo and FF, I don't have any free crit slots.
Apparently right now standard lasers are generating more heat than they should. As much as their pulse equivalents, to be exact.
This doesn't appear to be intentional.
Doesn't seem like they factored in simultaneous fire generating more heat?
Its all in that thread obv, but they further clarified that they tested lasers in a variety of hardpoints/numbers and it always came out with the same heat per laser.
Probably just a by-product of everyone thinking the med lasers produce less heat than they actually do; fire a bunch and you will notice the discrepancy a lot quicker
AAAAGGGGH. I just lost a match in my Hunchback by blowing myself up trying to finish off a one-legged Cicada. I don't know what the heck was going on. My 'mech never shut down or even forced me to hit the override. I was merrily chain-firing my lasers into his good leg as he hobbled around, then oh hey my heat scale is at 100% should I be concerned about that BOOM. I thought there would always at least be an attempt at an auto-shutdown you have to override before you could self-destruct.

Fucking embarrassing.
Your 'mech just got tired with living. Did you mount antidepressant heatsinks? Those can cause suicidal behavior.
So do you pretty much need an XL to be effective with a Cicada? I bought a 2A and am rocking 4 SLAS and not feeling very useful.
Honestly the Cicada's strength is less in its ability to hurt anything, and more in its ability to completely fuck with the other team. You've got Jenner speed and maneuverability combined with Centurion armor and durability. That you also have a Jenner's loadout (instead of a Hunchback's) isn't really that big of a deal.
So do you pretty much need an XL to be effective with a Cicada? I bought a 2A and am rocking 4 SLAS and not feeling very useful.
I'm inclined to think that SLASes in a Cicada are actually not good. Not because SLASes are bad, but because that 5 extra tons in a Cicada goes a long way towards letting you sport at least 4 MLASes efficiently. 2 extra tons to upgrade to MLASes, then 3 double heatsinks added on. And if DHSes were fully functional, you could probably sport 4xMPLAS or swap out an MLAS for an LL from the weight savings.
And even if you aren't dealing much damage, Cicadas, at least until knockdowns come back (can't happen too soon for my tastes), are an enormous pain in the ass to kill. Had several matches yesterday where the entire enemy team was wiped out in short order, except for a Cicada or two which drug out the end of the match by several minutes. The bastards just do not die; at least Jenners have the courtesy to have thin enough armor to get killed in decent order.
Was there much raging for the streakcat pilot in chat?
Suprisingly, no, but that was probably because he was too busy stomping around damoonrulz, hoping he would wake up. We certainly needled him as much as possible, though.

Xl engine. Es chassis. DH. Add a gauss and an ERLLas. Away you go. Just don't get caught up in bloodlust like me and go toe to toe against an atlas. I survives that yesterday but hopping along on 1 leg made me pretty easy to take down afterwards.
Well... here's a thing. Turns out if you put Endo-steel and DHS on a Laserback then you have almost exactly enough tonnage to put in as many DHS as will fit along with 7 MPL's, 5 in the lunchbox and 2 in the arms.
Its not perfect but it works and is fun as all hell. And your absolute sky-high maximum repair bill will be 15k, usually a lot less. This is now my first port of call when the reset hits.

I'm not sure what you're doing to get only 15k repair bills, but that hasn't been my experience at all. Perhaps you have no armor, thus it's cheaper to repair when you get cored? My repair bill is routinely 15-30k, and can go upwards of 50k when I get most of me shot off. That's with ES and regular HS.
Or maybe you're running with a really slow standard engine to fit all that MPLAS weight?
XL300 81/kph (87.4 with pilot skills)
AC/10 3 tons of ammo (45 shots)
SRM6 1 ton of ammo
4X Mpulse
Comes out to a 49 damage Alpha
Endo Steel
304 Armor
20 Heatsinks current (10 bugged engine heat sinks and 5 DHS)
1.3 Heat Efficiency (Runs cooler than it sounds on account of two of the Mpulse being in RT so they are not fired constantly as the others). Once engine DHS are changed should be even better, but still great now.
Edit: Hmm, I might make that a 1N and change it to just two Mpulse but two SRM4. Free up some space for either more heatsinks or work in a gauss instead of AC/10.
I don't see how you'd justify an XL in a Hunchback. The 4SP is the only variant where the attack strategy is not to automatically go for the one torso. XL is begging for a repair bill.

Just a the default standard engine, full coverage of basic armour, Endo-steel, double heatsinks, and medium pulse lasers.
I've been experimenting with a number of laserback loadouts over the last couple of days, and I think its the fact that I have no shiny toys whatsoever on my builds, they all cost <15k to repair. With or without double heatsinks.
Lack of ammo-based guns is also a factor I guess, as certain ammunition is apparently diamond encrusted for purposes of repair/re-arm. Some other stuff could be wonky too.

Ah yes, I could see that. My XL carries a hefty repair bill.

Are you sure you don't have spare armor that is covering the repair cost? because that seems *really* low for 'sky-high maximum' as in absolutely shot to shit, missing both arms and almost cored all over.

Yeah, if you changed something to FF or cut armor on a lot of other chassis, you'll have quite a bit sitting around to repair without having to actually buy anymore. As an example, right now I have, unused, 680 regular armor and 289 FF. Makes the next few corings easy as shit to repair.

Sold all I had including equipment, but apparently it doesn't sell armor? had 200 or so left when I checked, so probably a lot more was there before today. So all my 0-15k repair bills have excluded armor costs entirely. Ah well. Should probably pay more attention.
