Now normally I do not post on the forums as I am more of a troll then anything. So please do be kind.

Having recently just assembled my new computer for work and for fun,I must say I am at a loss for what applications to put on this bad boy. I am looking for things that you guys would consider essential to have on any computer or things that are just fun/unique to add to you desktop. My web browser is (of course) FireFox and I have all the standard things such as Microsoft Office etc. So that should give you a decent idea as to what I already have.

Once again, sorry for the poor grammar/English as English is my 2nd language.

Lavasoft's adaware and Spybot S&D [/url[ for anti spyware.

    for Anti Virus I use
AVG but I've also heard that avast! was pretty good as well.

Also you may want gimp for photo editing.

That's all I can think of on top of my head.

edit: oh and do you use an IM client at all?

Oh god. When I was younger, me and my friends wanted to burn the Harry Potter books.

    Then I moved to Georgia.

I go with Foobar2000 for my music. It's clean, simple, and fast. It's also got a lot of really good playback stuff if you're into audio (all manner of replay gain and stuff you can enable/tweak).

For every other type of media, you can't go wrong with VLC

For instant messaging, I tend to go for Trillian although it can be a tad bit resource hungry. Tabbed messaging, multiple IM accounts and protocols simultaneous? Hell yea.

And disable that shitty windows firewall and install Comodo Firewall. It's free, easy to configure, and does a better job than most others out there, including paid stuff.

Google Talk is easy to set up and cool to use. I like it anyways. It also saves all your chats to your gmail account if you need to refer back to them.

I also happen to like the Zune Desktop Theme for XP. It's refreshing and works well without having to go through extreme interface makeover.

Everything else I was going to suggest has already been mentioned.

Oh! And for Firefox, I recommend making a toolbar of clickable buttons. You simply bookmark a page or website you want, and then right click the icon from the bookmark toolbar and then delete it's name from properties. Then you have a minimalist icon ready for the clicking, it's very handy if you need to check up on several websites a day, you can just work your way down the line! :)
