BS in Mathematics and Masters in Information technology

infamouskelinfamouskel Registered User new member
I'm currently in university studying Industrial Mathematics. I'm hoping to finish with at least a Second class so I can move on to a Masters degree. I'm considering a Masters in Information Technology but I haven't decided yet. His this a good move to make, you know, career wise? What are your thoughts? Any advice will be appreciated.

What do you want to do for a career? Would a Masters in IT help you in this desired career?

I too am curious. I have a degree in Computer Engineering and am a new military officer. Masters in IT degrees are popular for my career field, and I have the opportunity for a fuckton of tuition assistance, but I've never researched graduate school before. It simply was not something I could consider at the time, but now that I've started my career and have a grown-up salary, I want to try it.

Yeah it really depends on what you want to do - a Masters of IT is basically going to put you into technology management - you'll lead junior IT guys, system admins, database admins, etc.
If you've got IT experience along with that education, you may find yourself CIO or IT director of a company.

I would strongly suggest anyone interested in an IT related field go for a masters if they have the means. It is a serious step up in that specific world

Absolutely true. Much of the IT field is consulting for government and big businesses that cap what they will pay contractors based on credentials. A master’s degree dramatically increases your hourly rate for those jobs, which means that even if you are working in-house somewhere they still have to compete with those high rates others might pay. If your degrees come from a good school and you know what you’re doing you’ll be making six figures right out of school or within a few years.

That sounds fantastic. I'm a new Cyberspace person in the military and Masters degrees in IT are all the rage in this field.

I visited the Education office and they made me feel really reassured because I'm rather self conscious that I have two bachelors degrees (it's a long story).
